Hartley (forename unknown) was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. *

The defender appeared for Thistle in November and December, 1888.

He made his debut appearance on Saturday, 17th November, 1888, in a 1-1 draw away to Clyde in the Glasgow Cup.

There were no goals for Hartley in his short spell with Thistle.

He played his second (and last known) game for the club on Saturday, 1st December, 1888, in a 1-0 win at home to Clyde in the Glasgow Cup.

His known club-list included only Partick Thistle.

Ibrox. Goals 15, 16 and 19 had Thistle reeling. They had their chances but their shooting was well out and Paul was well marked. 5 more goals in the 2nd half and Thistle “fell to pieces” (SC). Had they been at their best, they would still have struggled against an excellent Queens team.
