![]() He's fat, he's round, he's worth a million pound, Gordon Rae - was a very popular chant with the Thistle fans as the promotion winning season of 91/92 neared it's conclusion. Best remembered by many as a Hibs player, Rae was signed by John Lambie immediately upon his return from Hamilton in March 1990 and he proved to be one of Lambie's best signings. His partnership with Jim Duffy, although perhaps not the quickest, was certainly one of the most formidable in the First Division as Thistle's ultimate promotion was due in no small measure to a tight defence. Having helped Thistle to the Premier League, Rae, or Duffy for that matter, never got the chance to play in the top flight with the Jags where their lack of pace could possibly have been exploited. At any rate, Rae was a pivotal member of the promotion squad and a player remembered fondly by the Thistle fans. Had a spell in charge of Gala Fairydean during one of their league applications and was also at East Fife. |
