Gerry Doyle |
Gerald Joseph Doyle was born on Wednesday, 17th February, 1965, in Glasgow. The 5' 8½ (10st 0lbs) defender signed for Peter Cormack's Thistle on Thursday, 21st May, 1981, having most recently been with Auchengill Boys Club. Aged 17, he made his debut appearance on Wednesday, 28th July, 1982, in a 3-1 friendly defeat away to Linlithgow Rose. There were no goals for Gerry during his time with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 29th September, 1984, in a 3-2 defeat away to Ayr United in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 68 occasions. Gerry's club-list included Partick Thistle, Pezoporikos Omilos Larnacas, Alloa Athletic, Bannerman, Stranraer and Dumbarton. |
Signed direct from school in 1981, he and his brother Jamie were rated the two outstanding prospects at Firhill. Gerry played several times for the Scottish youth teams, and played very well in midfield or full-back in his first and second seasons, although towards the end of 83/4 his performances seemed to lack sparkle. He played just a handful of games the next season, before leaving the club. Went on to play with Alloa and Dumbarton. |
