George Muir was born on Sunday, 21st January, 1940, in Stirling. The 5' 8 (10st 12lbs) defender signed for Davie Meiklejohn's Thistle circa Saturday, 26th July, 1958, having most recently been with Sauchie Juveniles. Aged 19, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 28th March, 1959, in a 3-2 defeat away to Dundee in the SFL First Division. George scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 18th February, 1961, in a 3-2 win at home to St Mirren in the SFL First Division. He scored the last of his 3 goals on Monday, 11th April, 1966, in a 2-1 win at home to Clyde in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for the club on Wednesday, 13th March, 1968, in a 1-0 win at home to Kilmarnock in the SFL First Division, having clocked up an impressive 269 appearances as a Jag. His club-list included Sauchie Juveniles, Partick Thistle and Dumbarton. George died on Monday, 13th December, 1999, in Stirling, aged 59. |
