David Guthrie Reid was born on Wednesday, 7th June, 1865, in Milton, Glasgow.

The goalkeeper guested for Thistle in February, 1890, whilst a Rangers player.

He made his only known appearance on Saturday, 15th February, 1890, in a 4-1 friendly win away to St Mirren.

His club-list included Rangers and Partick Thistle.

David died on Wednesday, 5th November, 1941, in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, aged 76.

Bio Extra

Son of William & Elizabeth Reid (née Guthrie). Carried on the family business as a muslin manufacturer. Was the first Rangers League goalie in August, 1890. The sketched image above appeared in “Heads and Tails” (1891), a magazine which chronicled the inaugural season of the Scottish Football League. It was “rescued” via the Evening Times of 8th November, 1941, for his obituary.
