David Stuart Byrne was born on Sunday, 5th March, 1961, in Hammersmith, London. The 5' 9 (10st 9lbs) forward signed for John Lambie's Thistle on Saturday, 10th July, 1993, having most recently been with St Johnstone. Aged 32, he made his debut appearance on Tuesday, 27th July, 1993, in a 2-1 friendly win away to Derry City. There were no goals for David during his time with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Friday, 17th February, 1995, in a 2-0 friendly win away to Ayr United, having appeared as a Jag on 47 occasions. David's club-list included Southall, Hounslow, Harrow Borough, Kingstonian, Gillingham, Millwall, Cambridge United, Blackburn Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Bristol Rovers, Watford, Reading, Fulham, Shamrock Rovers, St Johnstone, Walsall, Partick Thistle, St Mirren, Tottenham Hotspur, Ayr United and Albion Rovers. |
![]() The original man of many clubs, Byrne first came to the attention of the Thistle management team while playing with St Johnstone against Thistle, ironically scoring an own goal that handed Thistle a precious point. The next season saw him line up in Thistle colours and for the next couple of seasons was a very useful squad member. Played with numerous clubs after leaving Firhill, including Tottenham Hotspur in the Intertoto Cup. |
