Dario Zanatta |
Dario Zanatta was born on Saturday, 24th May, 1997, in Victoria, British Columbia. The 5' 11 (11st 11lbs) forward signed for Gary Caldwell's Thistle on Tuesday, 27th August, 2019, having most recently been with Heart of Midlothian. Aged 22, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 31st August, 2019, in a 3-2 defeat at home to Ayr United in the SPFL Championship. Dario scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 28th September, 2019, in a 3-1 win away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the SPFL Championship. Mirroring this, he scored the last of his 3 goals on Saturday, 14th December, 2019, in a 3-1 win at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the SPFL Championship. He played his last game for the club on Tuesday, 10th March, 2020, in a 1-1 draw at home to Dunfermline Athletic in the SPFL Championship, having appeared as a Jag on 25 occasions. At September, 2024, Dario's club-list included Heart of Midlothian, Queen's Park, Raith Rovers, Alloa Athletic, Partick Thistle, Ayr United, Hamilton Academical and Pacific. |
As a youngster, the Canadian forward represented his country at under 16, 18 and 21 levels and went to the 2017 CONCACAF U20 Championships. He set his sights on a career in Europe and landed his first professional contract with Heart of Midlothian, making his debut as a sub in a 4-0 Premiership win over Partick Thistle at Firhill in late October 2015. He spent the next three seasons with a number of succesful loan spells, averaging one goal in four at Queen's Park (2016-17), Raith Rovers (2017-18) and Alloa Athletic (2018-19). Had a rip-roaring debut at Firhill in late August 2019 against Ayr United, drawing a converted penalty and assisting Shea Gordon to put Thistle 2-1 up just before half-time. It all turned sour on the day with 2 red cards and a Kris Doolan goal for Ayr eventually leading to a 2-3 defeat. Likewise, Zanatta's persona as a buzz-bomb force to be reckoned with soon dissipated, and he was the subject of much criticism from the stands for often looking disinterested as the team slumped to the bottom of the League. Following Thistle's early relegation as the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Zanatta invoked a release clause in his contract and left the club in the summer of 2020, signing a one-year deal at Ayr United. Moved on for a second spell with Raith Rovers in season 2021-22, then was transferred on to fellow Championship outfit Hamilton Academical in August 2022, signing a 2 year deal with the Accies. |
