Bio Extra

As a 20-year-old, this Fulham defender was Thistle's only incoming player in the January 2023 transfer window, arriving on the last day of the month on a loan deal until the end of the season. He's mainly thought of as a centre-back (his favoured position) but has also been utilised as a right back. In an April 2021 feature for the Fulham website, Connor introduced himself to the club's wider fan base:

mh-quote.png

I’m a bit of a leader in that I like to try and take control of situations and I feel I’m good in the air as well as comfortable on the ball. I also quite like defending in the one versus one situations. I’m naturally both-footed and I’m often moved from the left-hand side to the right depending on who’s coming in that week.

He came through the Fulham Academy all the way from the age of 8, progressing to the under 21s where he was made team captain. He got his first taste of senior football in October 2021, when he was sent out on loan to fifth-tier Wealdstone of the National League. His father, Gordon McAvoy also played professionally (as a right back) in that very League. With his Dad being Scottish, Connor was eligible to play for Scotland, and was regularly selected for the country at every level from under 17s through to under 21s.

The player greatly impressed the Thistle fanbase in his short time at the club, and many had him as man-of-the-match as Thistle defeated Raith Rovers 3-0 in one of the games of the season at Firhill. Alas, just when it was all looking so good, Connor had to be stretchered off during the first half of a 0-0 draw at home to Morton. A scan revealed that it was a season-ending injury, and he returned to London to undergo rehabilitation with his parent club.
