 Brown (forename unknown) was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The forward was possibly a guest player for Thistle in August, 1901. He made his only appearance on Tuesday, 20th August, 1901, in a 2-0 defeat at home to Queen's Park in a Benefit match. There were no goals for Brown in his one-off appearance for Thistle. His known club-list included only Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when Brown died. *

 Such was the stature of the great Willie Paul that he was afforded a second testimonial match, his second favoured team, Queen's Park, providing the opposition in August 1901. The Evening Times reported that Thistle were having difficulty in fielding an eleven. Mystery man Brown was on of three players playing their one and only game for Thistle that night, the others being Sinclair (right back) and Smellie (outside left) who were drafted in from Scottish Amateurs. Brown played at inside left, partnering the legendary Scottish internationalist, Bob Smellie. On the Tuesday night at Meadowside, Queen's Park were far the better team and scored in either half. Although the full-backs were sound, the half-backs “didn't shine”. The forwards were “an uneven lot” (ET). A 2,000 crowd was poor for such a Thistle legend. |
