 Robert Neil was born in Glasgow, although we've been unable to establish a date as of yet. * The 5' 7 (10st 7lbs) defender signed for George Easton's Thistle on Tuesday, 1st June, 1926, having most recently been with St Roch's. He made his debut appearance on Saturday, 14th August, 1926, in a 1-1 draw away to Falkirk in the SFL First Division. There were no goals for Bobby during his time with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 12th February, 1927, in a 3-2 defeat away to Hibernian in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 15 occasions. His known club-list included St Anthony's, St Roch's and Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when Bobby died. *

 Bobby was a local half-back who had played in the juniors with St Anthony's and St Roch's before landing at Firhill in the summer of 1926, completely in line with the modus operandi of manager George Easton. Thrust straight into the first class action, he played in the first two league games and was a regular during the first half of his first senior season, but faded away at the expense of others before the springtime. Highlights of his appearances included a 4-1 league win at Pittodrie in November 1926 and a 5-0 New Years Day league win against Clyde at Shawfield. He was confined to the Reserves for season 1927-28 and most likely returned to the junior game, but it's not easy to get a trace on him from there. |
