| Bobby Gray [ii] |
 Robert Gray was born on Tuesday, 23rd July, 1940, in Paisley, Renfrewshire. The 5' 7½ (10st 5lbs) defender signed for Davie McParland's Thistle on Thursday, 11th March, 1971, having most recently been with Alloa Athletic. Aged 30, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 13th March, 1971, in a 2-0 win away to Raith Rovers in the SFL Second Division. There were no goals for Bobby during his time with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 17th March, 1973, in a 5-1 defeat at home to Ayr United in the Scottish Cup, having appeared as a Jag on 50 occasions. His club-list included Dunipace, St Johnstone, Alloa Athletic, Partick Thistle, East Stirlingshire and Sauchie. Bobby died on Tuesday, 22nd March, 2016, aged 75. |

“Sizzling Thistle roast Celts”. “Thistle won the trophy…with a blistering display of power football”. “Thistle were dynamic on the break, calm in defence” (ET). “Barren years end for Thistle with emphatic cup win” (GH). Four goals in the first 37 minutes gave Thistle a rare major trophy win. The bookies rated Celtic as 1/5 odds-on to win, but Rae (10), Lawrie (15), McQuade (29) and Bone (37) got the goals in one of the biggest upsets ever seen in Scottish football. Davie McParland |
