Robert Pitcairn Speed Paton was born on Tuesday, 9th July, 1901, in Stirling. The 5' 8½ (11st 7lbs) defender signed for George Easton's Thistle on Tuesday, 12th August, 1924, having most recently been with Moorpark Amateurs. Aged 23, he made his debut appearance on Friday, 15th August, 1924, in a 3-2 defeat away to Hibernian in the SFL First Division. There were no goals for Bob during his time with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 4th May, 1929, in a 2-1 defeat away to Rangers in the Glasgow Charity Cup, having clocked up 116 appearances as a Jag. His club-list included Moorpark Amateurs, Partick Thistle, St Johnstone, Shelbourne, Queen of the South, Third Lanark, Ayr United, Kidderminster Harriers, Worcester City and Stourbridge. Bob died on Sunday, 27th January, 1952, in Glasgow, aged 50. |
