Bio Extra

Joined Thistle at 31-year-old, having left Kilmarnock in the summer of 2023, following two seasons with the Rugby Park side during which time he played 58 times and scored four goals including a title-winning strike against Arbroath in April 2022. At the time of signing Thistle gaffer Kris Doolan commented: “We had him in from training and I really liked what I saw from him. I already knew he was a talented player but his attitude and work ethic were spot on too which is a must at this club. Having seen what he’s like on a daily basis, it’s no surprise to me that he’s been playing at the top level in Scotland for well over a decade.

Alston started his career with Falkirk, making his professional debut and scoring his first senior goal for the club in separate trips to Firhill during the 2010/11 campaign ultimately spending six seasons in the Bairns’ first team. After that he had a fruitful stint in the Premiership with St. Johnstone wherein he played just shy of 100 times for the McDiarmid Park side before departing for Hamilton in 2019. A brief return to Falkirk in 2020 preceded his stay at Kilmarnock where he surpassed 400 career appearances in all competitions.

Blair didn't set the heather on fire consistently at Firhill, but he showed what he was capable of on a number of occasions. In November 2023, he scored back-to-back beauties in a 2-1 league win over Morton followed by a 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Queen's Park, both at Firhill. Somewhat bizarrely, his other 4 goals all came against Raith Rovers, one in December 2023 and three in the play-offs final in May 2024. In fact, it was 4-in-a-row for Blair Alston in terms of scoring Thistle's goals vs. Raith Rovers, matching the feats of Alex Stott (1952) and Harry Gibson (1928). Alas, the 3-3 aggregate tie was decided in favour of the Fifers after a penalty shoot-out, denying Blair the hero status that he may otherwise have received. There were talks between the club and player about a possible contract renewal, but no deal came to pass, and Blair became a free agent in June 2024.
