William James Johnston was born on Friday, 17th February, 1950, in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire.

The 5' 9 (11st 3lbs) midfielder signed for Willie Thornton's Thistle on Saturday, 14th September, 1968, having most recently been with Drumchapel Amateurs.

Aged 19, he made his debut appearance on Wednesday, 20th August, 1969, in a 1-0 defeat at home to Dundee in the League Cup.

There were no goals for Billy during his time with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 25th March, 1972, in a 3-0 defeat away to Hibernian in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 20 occasions.

Billy's club-list included Drumchapel Amateurs, Partick Thistle, St Mirren, Falkirk and Renfrew.
