Bio Extra

Came to Firhill on loan from Celtic and stayed for almost a year, his loan agreement being extended. He quickly impressed manager and fans alike. Winning a Glasgow Cup winners medal with Thistle in 1989, he became a great favourite with the Thistle fans, and a bright future was expected. It was almost a crime that he wasn't playing at a higher level than Celtic reserves, but strenuous efforts by John Lambie to make the signing permanent were strongly resisted as he was highly rated at Parkhead. This was all very frustrating for Thistle, who were going through a goalkeeping crisis at the time.

Lambie's perseverance finally paid off in February 1991 when he made a double swoop upon Parkhead, recruiting both Murdoch and his team mate Paul McLaughlin. Murdoch was nowhere near as impressive second time around at Firhill, although he did frequently show just how good a 'keeper he could be. Injury kept him out of the run in to the promotion winning season 91/92, and the following season he shared goalkeeping duties with Craig Nelson. Left the club to start a career with the police, although he did return briefly when Thistle went through (another) goalkeeping crisis.
