The 5' 11 (11st 5lbs) goalkeeper signed for Bertie Auld's Thistle on Tuesday, 22nd August, 1978, having most recently been with St Mirren.

Aged 28, he made his only appearance on Wednesday, 23rd May, 1979, in a 1-0 defeat away to Rangers in the SFL Premier Division.

Ally's club-list included Ayr United, Aberdeen, St Mirren, Partick Thistle, Motherwell, Cumnock Juniors, Irvine Meadow XI and Petershill.
