● Alan Morgan, 2001 (SNS)

born in Scotland

Andrew Alan Morgan was born on Tuesday, 10th December, 1974, in Glasgow.

The 5' 9 (10st 12lbs) forward signed for John McVeigh's Thistle on Friday, 5th September, 1997, having most recently been with Forfar Athletic.

Aged 22, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 13th September, 1997, in a 2-1 defeat at home to Stirling Albion in the SFL First Division.

Alan scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 20th September, 1997, in a 2-1 win at home to Greenock Morton in the SFL First Division.

Fittingly, he scored the last of his 15 goals on Wednesday, 18th July, 2001, in a 5-1 win at home to the Alan Morgan Select in his own Benefit match!

He played his last game for the club on Wednesday, 2nd August, 2006, in a 2-2 draw at home to Celtic XI in a Benefit match, having appeared as a Jag on 38 occasions.

Alan's club-list included St Johnstone, Forfar Athletic and Partick Thistle.

Bio Extra

The story of Alan Morgan just proves how cruel football can be. Signed by John McVeigh from Forfar, his transfer initially caused some controversy with Thistle's financial problems leaving them unable to pay the fee due to the Station Park side. Alan had already netted 5 times for Thistle in season 97/98 when groin trouble ended his contribution. He was back to full fitness and form the following season with 7 goals when, in innocuous circumstances against East File, he sustained serious ligament damage that ulitmately ended his career. He saw out the last year of his Thistle career coaching the under 18 side and was granted a testimonial match by the club.
