Aged 24, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 25th July, 1987, in a 0-0 neutral-venue friendly draw against East Stirlingshire. Alan's club-list included Baillieston Juniors, Partick Thistle, Dundee and Albion Rovers. |
Joined Thistle from junior club Baillieston Juniors in the close season of 1987 and had an outstanding first season with the club, sweeping the board at the Player of the Year awards. Very successful in that first season as a man-marker, the following seasons he became an orthodox right back who was able to support the midfield and forwards. Joined Dundee in the Premier Division shortly after Sandy Clark became manager. Rejoined Thistle from Dundee in August 1994 after having previously played for the club between 1987 and 1989. Played a major role in helping Thistle avoid relegation at the end of the 94/95 season but like so many others experienced the pain of relegation at Tannadice 12 months later. Remained at Firhill for the following season but was unable to lift a club in decline and was given a free transfer at the season's completion. |
