Alan Maxwell Archibald was born on Tuesday, 13th December, 1977, in Glasgow.

The 6' 0 (11st 7lbs) defender signed for John Lambie's Thistle on Monday, 13th June, 1994, having most recently been with Possilpark YMCA.

Aged 19, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 5th April, 1997, in a 2-0 win away to East Fife in the SFL First Division.

Alan scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 22nd November, 1997, in a 2-2 draw at home to St Mirren in the SFL First Division.

He scored the last of his 10 goals on Saturday, 26th September, 2009, in a 3-2 win away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the SFL First Division.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 26th January, 2013, in a 2-1 win at home to Cowdenbeath in the SFL First Division, having clocked up a mighty 464 appearances as a Jag.

Alan's club-list included Partick Thistle, Kilwinning Rangers and Dundee United.

Murdo MacLeod was the first to realise the potential of Archibald when he handed him his debut against East Fife towards the end of the 1996/97 season. The following season, with John McVeigh now in control of team affairs, saw Alan make a real impact despite the club's relegation and his form was rewarded with the first of a number of caps at under 21 level. Despite his youth, Alan captained Thistle on a number of occasions.
