Bio Extra

Came through at Ayr United's youth academy, before signing for Annan Athletic in November 2008, going on to play in 127 matches and scoring 15 goals. The nephew of Davie Irons, Aaron's Jaggy credentials had a head-start when he signed for the club in May, 2012. The popular defender had a great time that season as McNamara's babes became Archibald's lions, and Thistle clinched the championship in some considerable style. Aaron's vital penalty in the 1-0 February win over Accies marked the start of an 8 game winning sequence, each victory a dagger blow to Allan Moore's Greenock Morton. The only sour note came in the 2013 Scottish Challenge Cup Final versus his home town club, Queen of the South. Having missed a crucial penalty in the dying embers of the game, emotions were running-high and he was sent off for subsequently head-butting the goading Queens captain, Chris Higgins. He received a four match suspension following this incident.

Memorably, Muirhead scored his first Premiership goal for Archibald's newly promoted Thistle in a 1–1 home draw with Hearts, scoring an 85th-minute penalty which, for the first time in nearly 40 years, put Thistle top of the all-new Premiership "in-play". Alas, this heady joy lasted only a few minutes, as Hearts notched a heartbreaking late equaliser. Aaron's goals tally is greatly boosted by his sure-shot penalty-kick prowess, a trait which has been evident everywhere he's played.

After leaving Thistle by mutual consent, Muirhead signed for Falkirk in January 2015 alongside former Thistle team-mate Mark Kerr. After having served as club-captain, he departed Falkirk on 23 January 2019, again with his contract being terminated by mutual consent. On 24 January 2019, Muirhead signed for Ayr United on a contract until the end of the 2019-20 season. Manager Ian McCall (who had signed him for Ayr) brought the 31-year-old back to Firhill for the 2022-23 season, the season-long pre-contract deal deal being announced in May 2022. On 20 June 2023, it was announced that Aaron's contract at Firhill had been extended to the end of season 2023-24, and that was extended again one year later, taking him through to the summer of 2025.
