2022-23 (Reserves)
The 148th season of Partick Thistle F.C.
scorers in CAPS • used subs in brackets
1. Tue-27-Sep-2022 [a] L0-4 Kilmarnock (League Cup Group 2 - game 1)
PTFC. 2.00pm, Rugby Park. McCready, Stevenson, Lennon, Laird, Akinola, Lyon, Stanway, MacKenzie, Weston, Ocholi, Taggart. (Diack, Henderson, Mackle.)
Ben Stanway hit the post, Stevenson flashed one past the target and Ocholi almost scrambled home from close range but the home side lead at the interval. Thistle couldn't maintain those levels and fell away in the second half.
2. Tue-11-Oct-2022 [a] L0-2 Motherwell (League Cup Group 2 - game 2)
PTFC. 2.00pm, K-Park. McCready, Stanway, Lennon, Akinola, Brownlie, Turner, Fitzpatrick, MacKenzie, Smith, Weston, Lyon. Listed subs: Wilson, Ocholi, Laird, Laird, Mackle, Taggart.
Thistle trailed at the break. Mason McCready had made two great saves, including one from a Josh Morris penalty, to keep the hosts out, but it was his unfortunate own goal which gave Motherwell the half-time advantage. In the second half, Josh Morris added to the Motherwell lead with a fine driven effort from 25 yards.
3. Tue-22-Nov-2022 [a] W4-1 Ayr United (League Cup Group 2 - game 3)
PTFC. 2.00pm, Townhead Park. McCready, Laird, Lennon, MacKENZIE, Akinola, Lyon, Weston, STANWAY, Stevenson, MULLEN (2), Smith. Listed subs: Trialist, Diack, Henderson, Turay, Mackle, Taggart. Academy 'keeper Chris White was listed as a trialist on a technicality.
At the home of Cumnock Juniors a strike from Ben Stanway had Thistle level at the break after Ayr had taken the lead from the penalty spot. A strong Thistle side ran out comfortable winners in the second half, thanks to a double from Danny Mullen and a counter from Zander MacKenzie.
4. Tue-29-Nov-2022 [a] L1-2 Queen's Park (City of Glasgow Cup section game)
QPFC. 3.00pm, Lochinch. McCready, Lennon, Mackle, Akinola, Lyon, WESTON, Stevenson, Diack. Laird, Fitzpatrick, Henderson. Listed subs: Wilson, Bell, Taggart, Queen, Ocholi.
Tony Weston opened the scoring for Thistle before the Spiders levelled. It was a competitive first half, and Weston has also struck the bar with Diack having a shot tipped over the bar. The home side edged ahead in the second half, and a late rally couldn't salvage a point.
5. Tue-17-Jan-2023 [a] L1-5 Rangers (City of Glasgow Cup section game)
PTFC. 2.30pm, Auchenhowie. Mitchell, Lennon, Laird, Tiffoney, Diack, Akinola, Docherty, Owens, Lyon, MacKenzie, Stevenson. (Taggart). OG.
Thistle were outplayed by the defending champions, who got off to a strong start with first half goals from former Jag Tony Weston and two others. There was some brief hope at the start of the second half when Jack Harkness of Rangers turned the ball into his own net after a delivery from the right side, but it was effectively all over on the hour mark when Ross Docherty was shown a straight red card for dissent just two minutes after being unhappy with a number of challenges.
6. Tue-24-Jan-2023 [a] L1-5 Queen of the South (League Cup Group 2 - game 4)
PTFC. 2.00pm, Palmerston. McCready, Mackle, Bell, Laird, Lennon, Lyon, Owens, MacKenzie, Diack, STEVENSON, Ocholi. Listed subs: Wilson, Taggart, Campbell, Galloway, Queen.
It was an even first half and Mason McCready made a great double save to keep it scoreless before James Lyon teed up Ji Stevenson for the opener. Thistle led at the break, but a ruthless second half display from the home side changed the complexion entirely.
7. Mon-13-Mar-2023 [a] L0-4 Hamilton Academical (League Cup Group 2 - game 5)
PTFC. 2.00pm, New Douglas Park. Wilson, Hodson, Lennon, MacKenzie, Laird, Bell, Mullen, McKinnon, Stevenson, Owens, Fitzpatrick. Listed subs: McCready, Queen, McFadden, Horn, Galloway, Ferrie.
A clinical first half from Accies seen them convert their three best openings into goals. Fitzpatrick, Mullen and Stevenson had shots for the Jags but the home ‘keeper wasn't seriously worked.
8. Tue-11-Apr-2023 [a] L0-4 Celtic (City of Glasgow Cup Semi Final)
PTFC/GFA. 2.00pm, Lennoxtown. Storey, McFadden, Bell, Mackle, Henderson, Lyon, Ocholi, Owens, Diack, Queen, Taggart. Listed subs: Ferrie, Turay, Falconer, McGinlay, Lockhart, Horn.
It was all Celtic from the start and they were 2-up on the half-hour. Thistle were seldom out of their own half but they were given a lifeline to reduce the lead with a penalty (hand-ball, 70) but it produced a fine save. Two more goals were a fair reflection of Celtic's dominance.
