2. Sat-29-Jul-1989 [a] L1-2 Stirling Albion (Friendly)
MP 19/8/1989. Graham, Dinnie, McGee, Corrie, Kelly, Newman, Craig, Kelly, Cheynie, Thomson, Campbell (S), Annand. (English, Grainger, McGUIRE.)
3. Mon-31-Jul-1989 [a] W2-1 Annbank United (Friendly)
MP 19/8/1989. Schofield, Kennedy, Law, Collins, Corrie, Dempsey, CRAIG, Peebles, Gallagher, Charnley, ENGLISH. (McGurk, Cheynie, Mosson.)
The energetic Junior side took an early lead but a chip by Craig over the keeper who had parried a shot by Dempsey put things all square. The second half was uneventful until a deflected shot from 18 yards by English went in. Annbank hit the bar late on.
4. Tue-08-Aug-1989 [a] L0-2 Armadale Thistle (Friendly)
MP 26/8/1989. Schofield, Corrie, Kerr, Thomson, McGurk, Craig, Moffat, McGuire, Law, Mitchell, Grant. (Trialist.)
Armadale just wanted to get stuck. Kerr's poor pass out of defence led to the opener. Law kicked off the line. They hit the bar before a diving header by Moffat was cleared off the line. Thistle had some chances but a poor pass-back by McGurk led to the clincher.
5. Wed-09-Aug-1989 [a] W5-3 Pollok (Friendly)
MP 26/8/1989. Schofield, Law, Thomson, Collins, McGurk, Trialist, McGuire, Mitchell, KELLY, Grant, CHARNLEY (2 - 1 pen). (Craig, MOFFAT, CAMPBELL (S).)
An even 1st half saw Charnley chip the keeper via the bar but the ball was forced in at a corner for 1-1 at half-time. Charnley (pen), and Kelly made it 3-1. Pollok scored as did Moffat. Sub Campbell made it 5 but Pollok fighting to the end scrambled a goal at a free-kick.
6. Tue-15-Aug-1989 [h] W5-3 Falkirk (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 26/8/1989. Schofield, McGee, DEMPSEY(2), Corrie, Collins, THOMSON, McGurk, CRAIG, Grant, English, Moffat. (TRIALIST.) Played at Springburn Park.
Craig powered home a header at a corner for the opener and Dempsey followed suit nearing half-time. He scored again after a spell of pressure. Falkirk reduced the lead then the trialist sub and Thomson made it 5-1. Poor defending let Falkirk in twice late on.
7. Mon-21-Aug-1989 [a] D2-2 Hamilton Academical (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 5/9/1989. Trialist, Corrie, Law, Collins, Dempsey, Mitchell, CRAIG, Thomson, FLOOD (pen), Gallagher, Grant. (English, McGurk.)
Thistle had most of the play but chances were scarce for either team. Poor defending left Thistle 2-down against the run of play. Flood scored with a pen after Law was fouled. Chances were few after half-time but Craig turned in a Mitchell cross to make it 2-2.
8. Tue-29-Aug-1989 [h] L3-4 Morton (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 5/9/1989. Trialist, Corrie, THOMSON, Collins, Dempsey, Craig, Mitchell, McGUIRE (pen), Kelly, ENGLISH, Moffat. (McGurk, Campbell (S).) Played at Springburn Park.
Thistle had all the early chances and Thomson put them ahead. English latched on to a long clearance and ran on to make it 2-0. After half-time McGuire converted a penalty. Unassailable lead? No. Free-flowing Morton made Thistle pay for a collapse with 4 goals.
9. Wed-06-Sep-1989 [a] D2-2 Albion Rovers (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 7/10/1989. Trialist, Dempsey, McGee, Collins, Corrie, Mitchell, Craig, McGuire, Law, TRIALIST, TRIALIST. (Campbell (S), English.)
A tremendous shot by Mitchell hit the bar and fell nicely for trialist No 11 to score but when the trialist keeper blundered it was 1-1 at half-time. Thistle did most of the attacking but poor defending led to Rovers' second goal. McGuire fired a pen wide (81) but trialist No 10 earned the draw (85).
10. Tue-12-Sep-1989 [h] L0-7 Kilmarnock (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 7/10/1989. Graham, Law, McGee, McGurk, Corrie, Craig, McGuire, Mitchell, Gallagher, English, Grant. (Moffat.)
Kilmarnock played their 1st XI team (and showed just one change the following Saturday). The young Thistle leam was no match for the visitors. Thistle had a few half chances and Mitchell and English hit the post but it was a mismatch.
11. Mon-18-Sep-1989 [a] W3-0 Queen of the South (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 7/10/1989. Graham, Law, McGee, Collins, Corrie, Craig, Grainger, MITCHELL, Gallagher, McCOY (2), McGuire. (Moffat, English.)
McCoy put Thistle 2-up with goals 37 and 41 and Mitchell made sure with 10 minutes remaining.
12. Tue-03-Oct-1989 [h] W3-1 Dumbarton (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 21/10/1989. Graham, Corrie, Craig, COLLINS, McGurk, Mitchell, Kelly, Peebles, McGuire, McCOY (2), English. (Moffat, Mosson.) Played at Springburn Park.
For all Thistle's 1st half dominance they couldn't find the net. Dumbarton improved and scored with a penalty but McCoy turned a defender and shot home within a minute. The 2nd half was nip and tuck until McCoy scored from close in then Collins headed in a corner.
13. Sat-07-Oct-1989 [a] D1-1 Queen's Park (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 11/11/1989. Graham, Trialist, Craig, Trialist, Trialist, Smith, McGuire, Peebles, Flood, GALLAGHER, Mitchell. (Corrie, Moffat.)
Confusion at the back almost let in Queens but overall there were few chances and no goals by half-time. Gallagher scored from a Smith cross (53). Queens scored from 18 yards in a rare attack (78). McGuire went off injured (84) and the 10 men saw the game out.
14. Tue-17-Oct-1989 [h] W10-4 Stranraer (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 11/11/1989. Graham, McGurk, CRAIG, Collins, Peebles, SMITH, ENGLISH (2), McCOY, FLOOD, CAMPBELL (S) (2), MITCHELL (2). Played at Springburn Park.
Despite going 1-down in 3 minutes, English equalising (4) and Stranraer going ahead again (8) there was no indication what was to come. Mitchell and Campbell made it 3-2 at half-time. It was 9-2 before Stranraer managed a third then Flood made it 10. The 14th goal came late on.
15. Mon-23-Oct-1989 [a] L1-2 Airdrieonians (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 18/11/1989. Duncan, Corrie, Craig, Collins, McDonald, Mitchell, Peebles, Gallagher, FLOOD (pen), ?, English. (Moffat.)
There were 8 players with 1st XI experience in the team but it was Airdrie who broke their duck with a low drive (30) looking off-side. Long grass and a greasy surface led to a defensive mistake and Duncan was rounded for 2-0. Flood's late pen made it 2-1.
16. Sun-29-Oct-1989 [a] L1-2 Whitburn (Friendly)
MP 11/11/1989. Graham, Corrie, McGee, Collins, Dempsey, SMITH, MITCHELL, Law, Campbell (S), Craig, English. (Moffat.) Testimonial for Whitburn keeper Mead.
Thistle trailed 2-0 at half-time from a looping header (32) and a stunning free-kick over the wall. Sleeves duly rolled up, Thistle set about the locals with more energy and Mitchell reduced their lead from 22 yards. There were lots of chances after that but none found the net.
17. Tue-31-Oct-1989 [h] W1-0 Ayr United (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 18/11/1989. Graham, Dempsey, McGee, Corrie, McDonald, SMITH, Mitchell, Peebles, Gallagher, Craig, English. Played at Springburn Park.
After a goalless first half a League official instructed Thistle to restart without Dempsey as he was actually suspended! Ironically Thistle had more space and had the best of things and Peebles set up Smith to rifle home from 15 yards. Graham's fine save denied Ayr an equaliser (80).
18. Mon-06-Nov-1989 [a] W3-2 Celtic (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 2/12/1989. Graham, Law, Trialist, Collins, Dempsey, SMITH, MITCHELL, Adams, English, Gallagher, CRAIG.
Graham had two excellent saves and the 1st half looked like being goalless until the keeper dropped a cross and Smith scored. Mitchell headed in a Gallagher cross (52) then Celtic reduced the lead. Craig made it 3, trialist No 3 was sent off and Celtic scored late on.
19. Tue-14-Nov-1989 [h] W2-1 Clyde (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 2/12/1989. Graham, McGurk, McGee, Corrie, Kennedy, Moffat, FLOOD, ADAM, Campbell (S), English, Craig. (Grainger, O'Reilly.) Played at Springburn Park.
Graham kept Thistle in the game with a series of fine saves but was finally beaten by a header (45). Adam excelled in the 2nd half fog and he set up a move finished off by Flood. Clyde missed a sitter (89) then Thistle ran up the park and, fittingly, Adam headed home (90).
20. Wed-22-Nov-1989 [a] W3-1 Clydebank (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 2/12/1989. Graham, McGurk, Craig, Corrie, McDonald, Kennedy, FLOOD (pen), Moffat, CLARK, ENGLISH, McGuire.
Despite some of their best football of the season to date, Thistle trailed to a header. Manager Clark netted soon after however and English scored 2 minutes after that. Dominant play against the league leaders produced one more goal when Flood converted a penalty. Thistle moved to 3rd, a point off the top.
21. Tue-05-Dec-1989 [h] L1-2 Hamilton Academical (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 16/12/1989. Line-up comprised Graham, O'Reilly, McDonald, Peebles, Flood, Campbell (S), MITCHELL and 5 x trialists.
A disappointing result against lowly Hamilton who deservedly took the lead (21). Mitchell drew Thistle level just on half-time just as Manager Clark arrived at the ground! Hamilton dominated the 2nd half and found a winner.15-year-old O'Reilly belied his years with an excellent performance.
22. Tue-12-Dec-1989 [a] D3-3 Morton (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 13/1/1990. Graham, Corrie, McGurk, McDonald, Wylie, Mitchell (J), MOFFAT, CLARK, CAMPBELL (S), Duncan, Grant. (Mitchell (T), Mclean.)
Morton had 6 1st XI regulars in their line-up but a stunning volley by Moffat and drive by Clark made it 2-0 after 7 minutes. Ex-JAG McDonald reduced the lead by half-time. Campbell made it 3-1 (54) but 2 goals for Morton (84 and 88) earned a point, indeed they almost won it (90).
23. Tue-19-Dec-1989 [a] W5-3 Falkirk (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 20/1/1990. Graham, McGurk, Wylie, Trialist, McDonald, Trialist, Trialist, Corrie, GRANT, FLOOD, CHARNLEY (2). (Moffat, CAMPBELL (S).)
Charnley's 25-yard free-kick put Thistle ahead then his cross was turned in by Grant for 2-0. Three goals (27, 57 and 59) put Falkirk ahead but Charnley popped up to rifle home an equaliser (71). Campbell floated one over the keeper and Flood scored with a 30-yard free-kick for 5-3.
24. Tue-30-Jan-1990 [h] W5-2 Cumbernauld United (Friendly)
MP 10/2/1990. Graham, McStay, Craig, PEEBLES, McDonald, MITCHELL, Sannachan, Wright, Grant, McGuire, ENGLISH. (GRAINGER, Moffat, CAMPBELL (S).) Played at Springburn Park.
Cumbernauld took an early lead but Peebles sprung an off-side trap to round the keeper for 1-1. A magnificent pass by Wright set up English then Campbell made it 3-1 from a McDonald knock-down. The Juniors deservedly pulled one back but late goals by Grainger and Mitchell made it 5.
25. Mon-05-Feb-1990 [a] L2-3 Kilmarnock (Scottish Reserve League)
KLS 9/2/1990. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
Thistle trailed 2-1 at the interval, Kilmarnock's second goal a penalty. They made it all square but the homesters scored a well-worked goal to take the points.
26. Thu-15-Feb-1990 [a] W5-1 Dumbarton (Scottish Reserve League Cup 1st Round)
MP 3/3/1990. Graham, Corrie, CRAIG, McGurk, McDONALD, KENNEDY, Mitchell, Clark, GRANT, ENGLISH, Charnley. (Sannachan.) Played at Stirling Albion FC.
The astroturf was passed playable just minutes before KO and Thistle wasted no time. Kennedy scored (7) and fellow central defender McDonald doubled the lead (33). English made it 3-0, Dumbarton scored then Grant and Craig completed a good night's work.
27. Tue-27-Feb-1990 [h] W3-2 Airdrieonians (Scottish Reserve League Cup 2nd Round)
MP 10/3/1990. Graham, Corrie, Jardine, Sannachan, Collins, Kennedy, Mitchell, CLARK, Grant, English, CRAIG. (McGUIRE.) Played at Springburn Park.
Thistle trailed at half-time, once again waiting for off-side that was never given. McGuire came on as a sub as Thistle took a corner. The ball broke to him and he scored. Time on the park? 12 seconds. Collins made it 2-1 but Airdrie scored (75) and Craig headed the winner (90).
28. Mon-05-Mar-1990 [a] W1-0 Stranraer (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 31/3/1990. Graham, McGurk, Craig, Sannachan, Law, Collins, Mitchell, Campbell (S), Grant, English Trialist. (TRIALIST.)
Goalkeeping heroics kept it goalless at half-time as Thistle made all the running and chances. In the 2nd half, against all the odds, Stranraer almost scored but hit the bar. Collins missed a sitter before the trialist sub netted from 18 yards (75).
29. Tue-13-Mar-1990 [h] W4-2 Airdrieonians (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 31/3/1990. Graham Trialist, CRAIG, McGurk, Wylie, Collins, CORRIE, TROUP, Grant, ENGLISH, Trialist. (Annand.) Played at Springburn Park.
Grant set up English for the opener in this top of the table clash but hesitant defending let in Airdrie (17). A 25-yard screamer by Craig following a corner made it 2-1 at half-time. Troup made it 3 (52) as Airdrie rallied but Corrie volleyed home to make sure.
30. Mon-19-Mar-1990 [a] D0-0 Ayr United (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 31/3/1990. Trialist, Corrie, Craig, Trialist, McFarlane, Collins, Sannachan, Trialist, Campbell (C), English, Grainger.
Chances were few as Thistle found the Ayr defence solid. The trialist keeper played his part in a disappointing goalless draw. Both teams joined Airdrie sitting the top of the league.
31. Thu-22-Mar-1990 [a] L1-3 Dundee (Scottish Reserve League Cup 3rd Round)
MP 7/4/1990. Graham, Trialist, Trialist, Wylie, Collins, McFarlane, Grant, Gallagher, Craig, MITCHELL, Charnley. (Sannachan.)
The wind made a mockery of the game. Dundee tucked away a shot Graham parried on to the post then the wind took a pass away from Wylie and Dundee scored. After half-time a fine goal put Dundee 3-up. Mitchell reduced the lead as Thistle piled on the pressure but to no avail.
32. Tue-27-Mar-1990 [h] W3-1 Celtic (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 7/4/1990. GRANT, MOFFAT, TRIALIST. Line-up as yet unsourced. Line-up also included English. Played at Springburn Park.
Playing "keepie-uppie" Grant beat three defenders and lobbed the keeper. The first-half lead was well deserved. Moffat and a trialist (from 25 yards) scored (45 & 46) in a whirlwind restart then a well-taken free-kick gave Celtic some consolation.
33. Tue-03-Apr-1990 [a] L1-2 Clyde (Scottish Reserve League)
ET 4/4/1990. Line-up as yet unsourced. ENGLISH (MP).
34. Tue-10-Apr-1990 [h] L1-3 Clydebank (Scottish Reserve League)

ET 25/4/1990. Line-up as yet unsourced. JARDINE (MP).

MP 5/5/1990. Graham, Kerr, Trialist, Collins, McDonald, Gallagher, Trialist, Jardine, ENGLISH, Grant, TRIALIST. (Moffat, Trialist.)
The first half was uneventful. If anything, Dumbarton had more of the play. A defensive mix-up let in English for the opener then trialist No 11 doubled the lead. Dumbarton applied some pressure and scored at a corner but it was fairly comfortable until the end.
38. Sat-28-Apr-1990 [h] D2-2 Albion Rovers (Scottish Reserve League)
HA. Line-up as yet unsourced. FLOOD, CHARNLEY.
