scorers in CAPS • used subs in brackets
1. Thu-12-Aug-1982 [h] W3-0 Celtic (Friendly)
GH 13/8/1982. O'HARA, McDOWALL, JARDINE. Line-up as yet unsourced.
2. Mon-29-Nov-1982 [h] L2-5 Celtic (Scottish 2nd XI Cup 1st Round)
GH 30/11/1982. McNab, Doyle (G), Lapsley, Scott, Dunlop, BLACK, Docherty (G), McDonald, McDowall, Cormack, KENNY. (Smith, Hughes.)
Celtic had too much to offer. Kenny fired home from 30 yards (18) but a short pass-back let them in (32). Black made it 2-1 (32) but two goals put Celtic ahead. Lapsley went off injured (65). Two more goals against 10 men finished Thistle off.
3. Sat-15-Jan-1983 [h] L1-5 St Mirren (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 29/1/1983. KENNY. Line-up as yet unsourced. Line-up also included Campbell, Jackson, Smyth, Scott, Dolan, Hughes.
A young Thistle side with a sprinkling of the "newman" clan held their own until half-time. Kenny gave them the lead (10) but St Mirren equalised (35). Both keepers had some fine saves. The howling gale and an experienced opposition took their toll in the 2nd half.
4. Mon-24-Jan-1983 [h] L0-2 Kilmarnock (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 5/2/1983. Smyth, Welsh Newman, Scott, Jackson, Docherty (G), Kenny, Hughes, McDowall, Newman, Newman, (Cormack, Dolan.)
McDowall missed an early chance and Kilmarnock went ahead (23) from a defensive error. Hughes hit the post from 25 yards soon after but Thistle fell further behind. A better 2nd half saw them on top but the goals just wouldn’t come. A bit unlucky not to draw.
5. Mon-07-Feb-1983 [a] L0-3 Morton (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 19/2/1983. Smyth, Campbell, Scott, Smith, Jackson, Newman, Docherty (J), Doyle (G), Hughes, Kenny, Dolan. (Newman, Findlay.)
The teams traded chances until Morton went ahead (16). Thistle fought back and had some close things before half-time. A through ball was slotted home past the advancing Smyth (53) and by then Morton were on top. A third goal came was no surprise.
6. Sat-12-Feb-1983 [a] L1-2 Rangers (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 19/2/1983. Smyth, Campbell, Newman, Scott, Welsh, DOCHERTY (J), Docherty (G), Doyle (G), Hughes, Kenny, Dolan. (Newman.) Rangers had 5 "Newmen" playing and a 6th on the bench.
Docherty lost his marker inside the box and chipped the ball over the keeper (16). Rangers seldom threatened until a Welsh og levelled things (63) and the winner came (65). A disappointing end considering the very good first half.
7. Thu-17-Feb-1983 [a] D0-0 Dumbarton (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 12/3/1983. Smyth, Campbell, Scott, Welsh, Smith, O'Hara, Docherty (G), Doyle (G), Docherty (J), Newman, Kenny. (Newman, Findlay.)
Very few chances were made and none were taken. Both sides played some good stuff but it was all in midfield and they gradually cancelled each other out. A fair result on the night but an improved performance.
8. Sat-26-Feb-1983 [h] W1-0 Queen's Park (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 12/3/1983. Smyth, Doyle (G), Gallagher, Scott, Smith, Newman, Docherty (G), Newman. DOCHERTY (J), Kenny, Dolan. (Findlay.)
Docherty (G) drove into the Queens defence and crossed for his brother "J" to score the only goal (13). Thistle had the best of things throughout but couldn’t add to their goal tall, but a win at last.
9. Mon-14-Mar-1983 [a] L0-3 Ayr United (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 26/3/1983. Smyth, Campbell, Newman, Dunlop, Smith, Scott, Docherty (G), Docherty (J), McDowall, Newman, Kenny. (Newman, Newman.)
Thistle scored" twice but a foul and off-side cancelled them out. Ayr had some good chances then a 25-yard free-kick beat Smyth (48). Two more goals (62 and 75) made for a comfortable win for the Honest Men.
10. Thu-17-Mar-1983 [h] D2-2 Celtic (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 26/3/1983. Smyth, Scott, Newman, Campbell, Dunlop, Newman, Docherty (G), Jardine, DOCHERTY (J) (2 - 2 pens), Dolan, Kenny. (Newman, Newman.)
Hard fought and a fair result. Celtic took the lead (10) but Docherty was tripped and he converted the pen himself (15). He scored from the spot again (20) when Dolan was fouled. Smyth misjudged a corner and the ball was poked in (34). Near things after half-time came to nothing for both sides.
11. Sat-19-Mar-1983 [a] D1-1 Motherwell (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 26/3/1983. Smyth, Welsh, Scott, Campbell, Dunlop, Newman, Docherty (J), Jardine, Newman, Kenny, Dolan. (Smith, Newman.)
Play was even in a goalless first half. The 2nd half was much the same until 88 mins when a pen for hand ball by Welsh was converted but Thistle fought on and sub "Newman" equalised (90).
12. Mon-28-Mar-1983 [a] W3-1 Airdrieonians (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 16/4/1983. Smyth, Kay, Newman, Scott, Newman, Newman, Docherty (G), JARDINE, Docherty (J), Newman, KENNY (2).
An even first half was goalless at half-time. Kenny put Thistle ahead but it was soon 1-1. A tremendous left-foot drive by Jardine restored the lead and Kenny scored again for a good win.
13. Thu-07-Apr-1983 [h] D0-0 Clydebank (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 16/4/1983. Smyth, Kay, Newman, Welsh, Scott, Newman, Docherty (G), Doyle (G), Park, Docherty (J), Newman.
Two stubborn defences refused to give anything away and the forwards were ineffective. Little wonder it was a goalless stalemate.
14. Mon-25-Apr-1983 [h] L1-2 Hamilton Academical (Scottish Reserve League)
MP 7/5/1983. Smyth, Campbell, Whittaker, Scott, Jackson, Hughes, Park, Cormack, Docherty (J) DOYLE (J), Kenny. (Newman.)
A lob over Smyth (the defence claiming off-side) put Hamilton ahead (20). He saved a pen just before half-time. Poor defending at a corner led to a second goal (50). Doyle fired one home (65) and Docherty headed a Park cross just wide (75).
