– AEE 30/9/1978. McLean, Boyle, Greer, Creaney, Anderson, Rodman, Sheed, NEWMAN, Frame, CLARK, McDonald.
– Newman finished off a Sheed cross from close in (1). Aberdeen hit back but they wasted several chances then Frame went on a mazy run and Clark finished off his pass. A penalty after h-t reduced the lead. McLean had some fine saves but the leveller came (86) from a poor clearance.

– Thistle we under a lot of pressure as Saints tried to get on level terms but a goal by McDonald relieved the pressure and Thistle saw the game out comfortably.

– Goals by Davidson and Frame gave Thistle a 2-goal lead at h-t. An exciting 2nd half saw United reduce the lead but Frame got his second for an impressive win.

– In atrocious conditions, Aberdeen made all the running and took the lead with a curling free-kick (15). They were so much on top it was a mystery the 2nd goal didn't come until a penalty (72). Frame scored (80) but so did Aberdeen (83).

– 2nd bottom v 2nd top. Aberdeen were by far the better team but they missed chance after chance. McLean had some fine saves as well however. Just when it looked like Thistle might steal a point, the winner came (83).

  • The points-per-game measurements (ppg) above are calculated on the same principle as the first-team's all games category, and are based on 1 point for a draw and 3 points for a win across all eras.
  • Final League Position: cannot be verified due to large number of postponements and the 3rd quarter of clubs' results being nullified. Most probably Thistle finished mid-table. Because of the large number of weather-related Reserve League postponements (and no prospect of these being slotted in) it was decided to disregard clubs’ results in the 3rd quarter of the season – meaning they would “play” their opponents 3 times ie 27 matches. No published table takes this decision into account however. In any case, Thistle only played Morton twice and Aberdeen, Celtic and St Mirren 4 times. In total Thistle are known to have played 29 matches taking 29 points from the 58 available. Rangers were champions.
