Thistle were seeded in the top half of the group stage draw which pitted the top 16 from last season's top-flight against each other, thus ensuring that 4 'lesser' teams from the bottom half of the draw would qualify for the two-legged Quarter Finals. For the 9th time out of 12 (1946-47 to date) Thistle fail to qualify from their League Cup group.
