ET 8/8/1953. Smith, Collins, McNab, Crawford, Kerr, McCredie, Smith, Harvey, STARK, Henderson, McInnes.
Thistle had the best of the early play and chances but it was Thirds who took the lead (26). The equaliser came when the Thirds keeper over-carried the ball and a free-kick just outside the box by Stark found the net. Report only to half-time.
2. Wed-12-Aug-1953 [h] L1-2 Stranraer (SFL Division C South-West)
GH 13/8/1953. CRAWFORD. Line-up as yet unsourced.

ET 15/8/1953. Smith, Collins, Kerr, Crawford, Brown, Harvey, McIntosh, McNab, Stott, Pollock, Henderson. Scorer as yet unsourced.
Stott and Pollock went close then Kerr's fine tackle averted some danger. Thistle's half-backs gave the forwards ample support but they made no impression against a stout Airdrie defence. Report only to half-time.
4. Wed-19-Aug-1953 [a] W3-1 St Mirren (SFL Division C South-West)
GH 20/8/1953. STOTT (2), McCREDIE (pen). Line-up as yet unsourced.

ET 22/8/1953. Smith, Collins, Kerr, Crawford, Brown, Harvey, Henderson, McIntosh, Smith, Pollock, Walker. Scorer as yet unsourced.
It was largely about Thistle attacking in the first half. Walker had two excellent runs and crosses but no-one took advantage. He was lost him to injury (25) then Smith had a fine save. Henderson went close and Smith skimmed the bar. Report only to half-time.
6. Sat-29-Aug-1953 [a] D1-1 Kilmarnock (SFL Division C South-West)
ET 29/8/1953. Bell, Collins, Husband, Crawford, Brown, Harvey, McIntosh, McNab, Kerr. Pollok, McCredie. Scorer as yet unsourced.

ET 12/9/1953. Bell, Husband, McNab, Harvey, Brown, Pollock, McINTOSH, Crawford, STOTT, Henderson, Smith.
Thistle went behind (5) but McIntosh raced through to level 3 mins later. Harvey set up Stott to put Thistle ahead from an acute angle. Playing fine football, only a double save prevented Thistle increasing their lead. Report only to half-time.
9. Sat-19-Sep-1953 [h] W2-0 Hamilton Academical (SFL Division C South-West)
ET 19/9/1953. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.

ET 26/9/1953. Bell, Collins, McNab, Davidson, Brown, Pollock, Smith, BELL, STOTT, McInnes, "Newman".
Bell gave Thistle the lead (10) then poor defending at a corner let in Clyde to equalise (15). Both teams were playing well. Stott scored in the 2nd half but Clyde had the best of things.
11. Sat-03-Oct-1953 [h] W5-1 East Fife (Scottish 2nd XI Cup 2nd Round)
LVM 7/10/1953. Smith (W), Collins, Kerr, Harvey, Brown, McCredie, Smith (G), Henderson, STOTT (3), POLLOCK, McINNES.
It was Thistle's forwards v East Fife's defence all afternoon. The visitors were no match for Thistle's “snappy interchanging and slick man to man passing”. Poor finishing let the visitors down in their occasional attacks.

ET 10/10/1953. Line-up as yet unsourced.

ET 31/10/1953. McINTOSH (2), McINNES. Line-up as yet unsourced.
Kilmarnock were pinned back for long spells. McIntosh finished off a Henderson cross (14) then McInnes (“in dazzling form”) scored at a corner (19). He tricked two opponents but was fouled and McIntosh headed in the free-kick (25). Report only to half-time.
16. Sat-07-Nov-1953 [a] W3-1 Airdrieonians (SFL Division C South-West)
ET 7/11/1953. POLLOCK, "NEWMAN", "JUNIOR". Line-up as yet unsourced. First sighting of club legend McParland (597 appearances).

17. Sat-14-Nov-1953 [h] W9-0 Queen's Park (SFL Division C South-West)
ET 14/11/1953. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
18. Wed-18-Nov-1953 [a] D1-1 Ashfield (Friendly)
ET 19/11/1953. McDONALD. Line-up as yet unsourced.
Ashfield (under their new, improved floodlights) surprised Thistle with the standard of their play. Smith misjudged a lob and Ashfield took the lead but McDonald equalised after half-time. Keeper Smith and Harvey at No 5 were best for a shade lucky Thistle.
19. Sat-21-Nov-1953 [a] W5-1 Rangers (SFL Division C South-West)
ET 21/11/1953. Smith (W), Collins, Gibb, Harvey, Brown, McCREDIE, SMITH (G) (2), HENDERSON, "Newman", McINTOSH, McInnes.
Smith scored twice inside 10 minutes then scored from 25 yards for 3-0. Rangers were seldom out of their own half. McIntosh and Henderson scored after half-time, Rangers getting on the scoresheet once.
20. Sat-28-Nov-1953 [h] W2-0 St Mirren (SFL Division C South-West)
ET 28/11/1953. Bell, Collins, Gibb, Harvey, Brown, McCredie, McInnes, Henderson, Stott, McIntosh, "Newman". Scorers as yet unsourced.
Thistle had early chances when newman No 11 skimmed the bar and a Harvey shot was deflected for a corner. Newman's header found the top of the net then St Mirren forced several corners but it was goalless at half-time. Report only to half-time.
21. Sat-12-Dec-1953 [a] D1-1 Motherwell (SFL Division C South-West)
ET 12/12/1953. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.
Motherwell were the better moving team and were good value for their half-time lead. Their defence coped well with dangermen Stott and Walker. Report only to half-time.
22. Sat-19-Dec-1953 [a] L1-2 Ayr United (SFL Division C South-West)
ET 19/12/1953. Bell, Collins, McCredie, "Newman", Kerr, "Junior", Smith, Henderson, Stott, "NEWMAN", Walker.
The home keeper failed to hold a shot from Walker and Newman No 10 nipped in to score (10). Ayr besieged the Thistle goal. Bell saved a 30-yarder but it was Thistle who finished the half the stronger. Report only to half-time.
23. Fri-25-Dec-1953 [h] L1-2 Rangers (SFL Division C South-West)
GH 26/12/1953. McCREDIE (pen). Line-up as yet unsourced.

ET 31/12/1953. Smith (W), Collins, Kerr, McIntosh, BROWN (2), McCredie, Smith (G), Crowe, "Junior", "Newman", Henderson. Remaining scorer as yet unsourced.
A strong shot by Brown out wide went under the keeper's body (35) for 1-0. Four minutes later he doubled the lead with a powerful drive. Thistle dominated the first half. Report only to half-time.

The visitors' keeper was all but unbeatable on the night. McParland scrambled the ball home for the only goal (15). Crawford cleared off the line and the bar saved Thistle but overall the winning margin would have been greater but for the keeper.
