Thistle were seeded in the top half of the group stage draw which pitted all 16 top-flight sides against each other, thus ensuring that 4 'lesser' teams from the bottom half of the draw would qualify for the two-legged Quarter Finals. For the 1st time out of 4 (1946-47 to date) Thistle win their League Cup group.
