Thistle dominated the first half and Harper gave them the lead. Rovers improved after the interval and took a 3-1 lead before Sutherland reduced the leeway with a fine 20-yarder (85) but there was no way back.

GH 19/8/1948. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.

5. Tue-31-Aug-1948 [a] D1-1 Rangers (Scottish Reserve League)
SFHA. No score in the press found but DC 1/9 has brief comment on the performance of Rangers' Willie Waddell "last night" v PTFC.
6. Sat-04-Sep-1948 [h] D2-2 East Fife (Scottish Reserve League)
LVM 8/9/1948. Ledgerwood, Pirrie, Cleary, Hewitt, Wilson, Haddow, Smith, WRIGHT, Kinnell, McINNES, McCredie.
Thistle attacked from the start but couldn't convert their chances so it was goalless at half-time. The home keeper fumbled a Wright shot for 1-0 (55) the McInnes scored looking off-side. The Fifers fought back with goals 70 and 80 to grab a point.
7. Thu-09-Sep-1948 [h] W4-2 Central League Select (Friendly)
DR 10/9/1948. ?, ?, Thomson, ?, ?, ?, WRIGHT (T), KINNELL, "Welsh", McCALLUM, McCREDIE.
Thistle too smart for the juniors”. Kinnell gave them an early lead but soon it was level (10). McCallum put Thistle ahead but just after half-time was 2-2. McCredie converted a pen and Wright tied up the scoring.
8. Sat-11-Sep-1948 [h] W5-2 Heart of Midlothian (Scottish Reserve League Cup section game)
SC 13/9/1948. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
9. ?Mon-13-Sep-1948 [a] W?-? Dumbarton (Scottish 2nd XI Cup 1st Round)
SFHA. Score not known. No trace of this match/result found. It is possible it was never played and that Dumbarton scratched. At the time the 2nd round draw was made "Dumbarton or Partick Thistle" were given a bye into the Qtr-Final.
10. Wed-15-Sep-1948 [a] D4-4 Yoker Athletic (Benefit)
DR 16/9/1948. Line up and scorers unknown. J. Freeland of Garrowhill Amateurs played at left half for Thistle.
11. Sat-18-Sep-1948 [a] W3-1 Queen of the South (Scottish Reserve League Cup section game)
GH 20/9/1948. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
12. Sat-25-Sep-1948 [a] W1-0 East Fife (Scottish Reserve League Cup section game)
LVM 29/9/1948. McCALLUM. Line-up as yet unsourced, but also included MacKenzie and Hewitt.
Both keepers were busy as chances came and went. McCallum scored (20) the Fifers' defence hesitating, waiting in vain for an off-side whistle. Ledgerwood had several fine saves to hold on to the slender lead in a frantic second half.
13. Sat-02-Oct-1948 [a] L1-4 Heart of Midlothian (Scottish Reserve League Cup section game)
SC 4/10/1948. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.

SC 8/11/1948. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
18. Sat-13-Nov-1948 [a] D2-2 Aberdeen (Scottish Reserve League)
APJ 15/11/1948. SUTHERLAND(2). Line-up as yet unsourced, but also included Curran and Brown.
Aberdeen were “slow and cumbersome and fortunate to escape defeat”. “The Firhill Reserves have some promising young players in their ranks”.
19. Sat-20-Nov-1948 [h] W3-2 St Mirren (Scottish Reserve League)
GH 22/11/1948. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
20. Sat-27-Nov-1948 [a] L2-3 Motherwell (Scottish Reserve League)
MT 3/12/1948. SUTHERLAND (2). Line-up as yet unsourced.
Sutherland gave Thistle the lead but the homesters equalised (33) with a header past Ledgerwood. A well-taken goal (no pun intended) put Motherwell ahead (53) then Sutherland levelled (75) but a goal (84) earned Motherwell both points - deservedly on play.
21. Sat-04-Dec-1948 [a] L0-2 Celtic (Scottish Reserve League)
GH 6/12/1948. Line-up as yet unsourced.
22. Sat-11-Dec-1948 [h] D1-1 Third Lanark (Scottish Reserve League)
GH 13/12/1948. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.

FH 22/12/1948. Ledgerwood, Curran, Gibb, Thomson, Kinnell, Haddow, McCallum, McInnes, SUTHERLAND, Harper, Wright.
Outstanding goalkeeping probably robbed Thistle of at least a point they deserved. Sutherland scored (37) but a pen levelled things before half-time. Falkirk took the lead and finished defending desperately but they held on for both points.
24. Sat-25-Dec-1948 [a] W3-1 Morton (Scottish Reserve League)
GH 27/12/1948. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
25. Fri-31-Dec-1948 [h] W3-1 Clyde (Scottish Reserve League)
SFHA. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced. No trace of this match/score found in press. Lack of editions on New Year's Day (Saturday) to report possibly the only reserve match played on the Friday.
26. Mon-03-Jan-1949 [a] W5-1 Queen of the South (Scottish Reserve League)
GH 4/1/1949. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
27. Sat-08-Jan-1949 [h] W6-1 Albion Rovers (Scottish Reserve League)
CE 12/1/1949. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
With a number of 1st XI players playing Thistle were too strong for Rovers and their lightweight forwards were “too easily brushed off the ball”. They kept the score respectable until near the end when they were over-run.
28. Sat-15-Jan-1949 [a] W5-1 East Fife (Scottish Reserve League)
LVM 19/1/1949. Henderson, Gibb, Livingstone, Davidson, Kinnell, Haddow, McCALLUM, Wright, SUTHERLAND (2), HOWITT (2), McInnes.
Howitt finished off a McCallum cross (7) but the equaliser came (13) after two shots were blocked. There were good chances at both ends before half-time. A McCallum pen, a terrific drive via the bar by Howitt and two from Sutherland made for a big win.
29. Sat-29-Jan-1949 [h] W2-1 Rangers (Scottish Reserve League)
GH 31/1/1949. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
30. Sat-12-Feb-1949 [a] L1-4 Dundee (Scottish Reserve League)
SP 13/2/1949. HADDOW. Line-up as yet unsourced, but also included Candlin and Curran.
The loss of Brown (9 mins, taken for a knee X-ray) was a severe blow although Thistle took the game to Dundee as much as they could. Down 3-0 at half-time, they played well against the wind in the second half and were unlucky not to score more than once.
31. Sat-19-Feb-1949 [h] W3-0 Hibernian (Scottish Reserve League)
SC 21/2/1949. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
32. Sat-05-Mar-1949 [h] D3-3 Aberdeen (Scottish 2nd XI Cup Quarter Final)
APJ 7/3/1949. SUTHERLAND (2), WRIGHT (T). Line-up as yet unsourced. Second round bye.
A splendid game in atrocious weather” and a fair result. A first half hat-trick by Aberdeen was countered by Sutherland twice and Wright (T) but no timing sequence was reported.
33. Sat-12-Mar-1949 [h] W4-1 Motherwell (Scottish Reserve League)
SM 13/3/1949. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
34. Sat-19-Mar-1949 [a] L3-4 Aberdeen (Scottish 2nd XI Cup Quarter Final replay)
APJ 21/3/1949. McCALLUM (pen), BRAIDWOOD, HARPER. Line-up as yet unsourced.
Aberdeen took a 3-goal lead into the second half - one a penalty. After the break Thistle found the Aberdeen keeper making save after save as the home team almost crumbled. McCallum (pen), Braidwood and Harper scored for Thistle but no scoring sequence reported.
35. Sat-26-Mar-1949 [a] L2-3 Third Lanark (Scottish Reserve League)
DC 28/3/1949. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
36. Sat-02-Apr-1949 [h] W3-1 Falkirk (Scottish Reserve League)
FH 6/4/1949. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
37. Sat-09-Apr-1949 [h] W3-2 Celtic (Scottish Reserve League)
GH 9/4/1949. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
38. Fri-15-Apr-1949 [n] D1-1 Third Lanark (Lodge Springburn 1198 Fundraier)
DR 16/4/1949. 7.00pm Petershill Park. HOWITT. Line-up as yet unsourced. Third Lanark's goal (Thom) was a penalty. Ref Willie Davidson with Jimmy Caskie & Willie Thornton running the lines.
39. Tue-19-Apr-1949 [a] W4-1 St Mirren (Scottish Reserve League)
GH 20/4/1949. HOWITT, HARPER, McCALLUM, BRAIDWOOD. Line-up as yet unsourced.
40. Sat-23-Apr-1949 [h] D2-2 Aberdeen (Scottish Reserve League)
APJ 25/4/1949. MARTIN, CRAWFORD. Line-up as yet unsourced.
Another close tussle with Aberdeen and another fair result. Martin cancelled out Aberdeen's early lead. They went ahead again after half-time but Crawford scored late on to earn a point.
41. Tue-26-Apr-1949 [a] L0-1 Heart of Midlothian (Scottish Reserve League)
SC 27/4/1949. Line-up as yet unsourced.
42. Fri-29-Apr-1949 [h] L1-5 Dundee (Scottish Reserve League)
DC 30/4/1949. McArthur, Davidson, McCREDIE, Candlin, Collins, Wilson, McCallum, Howitt, Martin, Harper, Braidwood.
Howitt hit the post before a poor pass-back led to Dundee's opener (18). Thistle lost Davidson carried off injured just on half-time. Goals either side of half-time made it 4-0 before Peat scored with a pen only for a fifth to be rattled in just on time.
