FH 13/8/1947. Henderson, Pirrie, Gibb, Davidson, Forsyth, Lang, Glover, McKENNAN, Wright, Scott, Smith.
Falkirk reserves sparkle”. A 20-yard drive beat Smith all ends up then (8) then a second goal (14) made for a poor start. It was all about defence after that although McKennan scored on the half hour. The 2nd half was tough going and Thistle conceded once more.

A good start by Thistle petered out and goals 11, 12 and 28 made for an uphill task but Wright pounced on a defensive lapse to reduce the lead (32). The match deteriorated in quality after half-time but Falkirk easily coped with what Thistle had to offer.

A 30-yarder (30 secs) by Smith put Thistle ahead then Candlin scored soon after. Airdrie scored, Smith scored, Airdrie scored. After half-time Smith completed his hat-trick, Airdrie scored, Chisholm hit the post then McInnes scored. Airdrie's No 9 scored his 4th late on.

A poor Aberdeen side couldn't cope with Thistle's midfielders and their forwards were largely ineffective. Thistle were best down the left where Chisholm and Lang struck up a fine partnership. MacBeath (on the right wing) scored twice, Lang once.

Defences were on top in a goalless first half. A pen for hand-ball put Motherwell ahead then Lang equalised. A soft pen was fired wide by Motherwell and a magnificent free-kick from outside the box by Candlin won the points.

After a good chance was missed Chisholm headed home for 1-0 (15). Three quick goals nearing half-time and two after it turned the match round completely. O'Donnell reduced the leeway then Chisholm fired a pen straight at the keeper.

Had Dundee taken a couple of early chances it might have been a lot different. It was 3-2 at half-time then Thistle swept Dundee aside in the second half. Walker with 5 goals and Sharp with a hat-trick tormented Dundee who had ex-JAG Steadward in goals.

An 18-yarder by McCallum put Thistle ahead then O'Donnell made it 2-0, beating 2 defenders before shooting. Queens pulled one back when Archibald parried a shot and the loose ball was tapped in. 2nd half not reported.

ET 10/1/1948. Archibald, Curran, Cummings, Hewitt, Davidson, Wilson, MacBeath, McCallum, Scott, GLOVER, LANG.
Morton went 2-up in 3 minutes - the first a Curran og attempted pass-back. Hewitt fired a free-kick just wide but Morton made it 3-0 soon after. MacBeath finished off a Lang cross but Morton made it 4-1 then missed a penalty before Glover made it 4-2 at half-time. 2nd half not reported.

Falkirk were mostly pinned back as McCallum blazed over and Kinnell shot softly straight at the keeper but Sutherland eventually headed home (30). Poor defending let him in again (31). Thistle eased off after half-time but Kinnell scored a third.
