SFL Division A Table

The first post WW2 season of the reconvened Scottish Football League included a Top Flight Division comprising all 16 teams who played in last seasons Southern League Division A. 2 points for a win. Those finishing level on points were placed in order of superior goal average. Table figures supplied by John Litster, with the data integrity verified by the Thistle Archive.

2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw. Teams finishing level on points were placed in order of superior goal average. Following on from six seasons of the "Southern" League Cup, the inaugural League Cup, introduced in this season to co-incide with the reconvention of the Scottish Football League, adopted almost the same format as last season's equivalent tournament, differing only by introducing a 2-legged element to the Quarter Finals stage. Thistle were seeded in the top half of the group stage draw which pitted all 16 top-flight sides against each other, thus ensuring that 4 'lesser' teams from the bottom half of the draw would qualify for the last 8. Tabulated by The Thistle Archive using contemporary newspaper reports for all 12 match results, and then verifying them against our own database.
