Southern League, Division A Table

Members of the North Eastern Football League joined with the Southern League for season 1945-46. To accommodate this, the Southern League expanded to two divisions, A and B. Participants in the one-off Southern League Division A included 13 of the teams from last seasons Southern League plus Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Queen of the South. 2 points for a win. Those finishing level on points were placed in order of superior goal average. Table figures supplied by John Litster, with the data integrity verified by the Thistle Archive.

2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw. Teams finishing level on points were placed in order of superior goal average. The final "Southern" League Cup was expanded to 31 teams in this season, with all 8 group winners advancing to the single-legged Quarter Finals stage. An element of seeding came into play to ensure that 4 of the 'lesser' sides would make it through to the next round. Thistle were seeded in the top half of the group stage draw, which pitted the top 16 from last season's top-flight against each other. Tabulated by The Thistle Archive using contemporary newspaper reports for all 12 match results, and then verifying them against our own database.
