The 61st season of Partick Thistle F.C.
scorers in CAPS
1. Sat-10-Aug-1935 [h] L1-2 Heart of Midlothian (Scottish Alliance)
SC 12/8/1935. Line-up (predicted) per EEN 7/8/1935: Gourlay, Johnstone, Prior, Busby, Cowan, G. Wylie, Hinchcliffe, McKennan, Ramsay, Sneddon, Bain. Scorer as yet unsourced. John Ramsay of United FC (Campbeltown) played as a trialist.
2. Tue-13-Aug-1935 [h] W3-1 Celtic (Scottish Alliance)
DC 14/8/1935. Gourlay, Johnstone, PRIOR (pen), Busby, Cowan, Baigrie, Hinchcliffe, McKennan, RAMSAY, STEWART, Bain. John Ramsay of United FC (Campbeltown) played as a trialist.
Stewart and Ramsay gave Thistle a 2-goal lead (15 and 30) then a penalty made it 2-1 just on half-time. Prior restored the 2-goal lead from the spot. Celtic's forwards were poor and they played most of the game with 9 fit men, 2 having been crocked and playing on the wings.
3. Sat-17-Aug-1935 [a] D0-0 St Johnstone (Scottish Alliance)
PRA 21/8/1935. Gourlay, Johnstone, Prior, Busby, Cowan, Baigrie, Hinchcliffe, McKennan, Ramsay, Stewart, Bain. John Ramsay of United FC (Campbeltown) played as a trialist.
A drab affair with few bright moments. There were plenty of chances created but neither team could finish. Bain and the outstanding McKennan both struck the post. Saints did so too near the end. "This fellow (McKennan) obviously has a future". Indeed!
4. Sat-24-Aug-1935 [h] W4-1 Queen of the South (Scottish Alliance)
SP 25/8/1935. WYLLIE (3), BAIGRIE. Line-up as yet unsourced.
QOS played well initially but gradually ran out of steam. Wyllie gave Thistle the lead (1). Queens were the better team and deservedly equalised (36). Wyllie completed his hat-trick (46 and 82). Baigrie added a fourth (86) then Queens missed a penalty.
5. Fri-30-Aug-1935 [a] L2-5 Rangers (Scottish Alliance)
GH 31/8/1935. WYLLIE, PRIOR (pen). Line-up as yet unsourced.
6. Sat-07-Sep-1935 [h] D2-2 Aberdeen (Scottish Alliance)
APJ 9/9/1935. Gourlay, Johnston, Prior, Cowan, Maxwell, Baigrie, Sneddon, Busby, McLENNAN, WYLLIE, Mitchell.
McLennan gave Thistle the lead (2) but Aberdeen had the bulk of the play only to find Gourlay in inspired form. They wiped out the lead and went ahead soon after half-time but after more Gourlay heroics Wyllie scored at a late goalmouth scramble.
7. Sat-14-Sep-1935 [a] L0-2 Kilmarnock (Scottish Alliance)
SP 15/9/1935. Line-up as yet unsourced. Line-up included Boyce (GK), Woolley and Kerr.
8. Sat-21-Sep-1935 [h] W4-1 St Johnstone (Scottish Alliance)
DC 23/9/1935. Boyce, Simpson, Jackson, Wyllie, Stevenson, Stewart, Hinchcliffe, McKay, KERR (3), SNEDDON, McLellan.
Saints took an early lead but Sneddon equalised then Kerr put Thistle ahead at half-time. The visitors put up a decent fight in the 2nd half but they lacked the finishing touch and fell to Kerr completing his hat-trick.
9. Sat-28-Sep-1935 [a] D1-1 Queen's Park (Scottish Alliance)
SP 29/9/1935. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.
10. Sat-05-Oct-1935 [h] L1-2 Hamilton Academical (Scottish Alliance)
SP 6/10/1935. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.
11. Sat-12-Oct-1935 [a] D1-1 Heart of Midlothian (Scottish Alliance)
SC 14/10/1935. KERR. Line-up as yet unsourced, but also included Boyce and Wooley.
Hearts were strong at half-back and a brilliant goal by their No 6 put them ahead (13). The game settled down on an even keel with defences largely on top. Kerr snapped up a cross from the right to equalise (68).
12. Sat-26-Oct-1935 [a] W2-0 Hibernian (Scottish Alliance)
SC 28/10/1935. REGAN, BAIN. Line-up as yet unsourced, but also included Wyllie.
Brilliant forward and half-back play by Thistle earned rewards when Regan's deflected shot put them 1-up (15) then Bain made it 2-0 soon after with an excellent strike. The second half was mostly Hibs but the defence stood firm to take the points.
13. Sat-02-Nov-1935 [a] L2-3 St Mirren (Scottish Alliance)
GH 4/10/1935. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
14. Sat-09-Nov-1935 [a] W2-1 Beith (Scottish Alliance)
SP 10/11/1935. McSPADYEN, McKENNAN. Line-up as yet unsourced.
Beith's bustling forwards kept the Thistle defence on their toes. They had most of the attacks but couldn't find the net. McSpadyen scored in the first half, McKennan in the second. Timing of the Beith goal (following a corner) not reported.
15. Sat-16-Nov-1935 [h] W4-1 Dundee (Scottish Alliance)
DC 18/11/1935. Boyce, Stevenson, Prior, Baigrie, Cowan, BUSBY (pen), McSpadyen, McKENNAN, "NEWMAN", WOOLLEY, Hinchcliffe.
Thistle were "better balanced and more experienced" than Dundee and won easily. Busby (penalty), McKennan, Newman and Woolley got the goals. Dundee's was also from the spot.
16. Sat-23-Nov-1935 [a] D1-1 Celtic (Scottish Alliance)
SP 24/11/1935. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.
17. Sat-30-Nov-1935 [h] D2-2 Queen's Park (Scottish Alliance)
GH 2/12/1935. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
18. Sat-07-Dec-1935 [a] L0-5 Aberdeen (Scottish Alliance)
APJ 9/12/1935. Line-up as yet unsourced.
The players found the hard frosty pitch difficult but there was no doubting the better team. Boyce stood still, deceived by a 35-yard free kick just on half-time. Thistle offered very little in the second half and Aberdeen more of less dominated proceedings.
19. Sat-14-Dec-1935 [h] L2-5 Motherwell (Scottish Alliance)
MT 20/12/1935. Kennedy, Baigrie, Kirkwood, WILSON (pen), Cowan, McLeod, McSpadyen, McKennan, WALLACE, Stewart, Christie.
Motherwell took an early lead but Wilson equalised from the pen spot (14). Again Motherwell went ahead but Thistle went close several times before half-time. Motherwell were too experienced and strong and scored 3 more before Wallace made it look slightly better.
20. Wed-01-Jan-1936 [h] L0-1 Kilmarnock (Scottish Alliance)
KH 3/1/1936. Line-up as yet unsourced.
Sneddon had a couple of close things then the visitors wasted a good chance. McSpadyen set up Sneddon but the keeper cleared. Keeper McKay played well but he was eventually beaten by a header (35). Thistle lost Stewart to injury in the second half and there was no way back.

GH 24/2/1936. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
26. Sat-29-Feb-1936 [a] W4-2 Dundee (Scottish Alliance)
DC 2/3/1936. McNair, Johnston, Stewart, Swann, Cowan, Corbett, HINCHCLIFFE, Campbell, WALLACE (3), Woolley, Smith.
The highlight of the match was a hat-trick by Wallace with Hinchcliffe getting the other goal. Dundee lost a man to injury (35) but even so, they missed enough chances to take at least a point.
27. Sat-07-Mar-1936 [a] L1-5 Motherwell (Scottish Alliance)
MT 13/3/1936. McNair, Johnstone, Stewart, Swann, Cowan, Corbett, Hinchcliffe, Campbell, BAIN, Woolley, Smith.
McNair had some early saves then Bain shot just over. Motherwell had the best of things but Bain gave Thistle the lead (25). Johnston went off injured and Motherwell scored. He came back as a passenger on the wing but Motherwell went on to clock up 4 more.

Hamilton enhanced their chances of the championship with this win. Thistle took the lead through Wilson (15) but Accies equalised (35) against the run of play. Two goals (40 and 57) put them in a strong position but Smith scored (70). The homesters scored again (87).
