1926-27 (Reserves)
The 52nd season of Partick Thistle F.C.
scorers in CAPS
1. Sat-14-Aug-1926 [h] L1-3 Mid-Annandale (Scottish Alliance)
SP 15/8/1926. GIBSON. Line-up as yet unsourced.
League newcomers Mid Annandale shocked Thistle with a lively display. They led 2-1 at half-time and Thistle were no better in the second half despite swapping their forwards around. They finished the season (their only season) 14 points above Thistle.
2. Sat-21-Aug-1926 [a] L1-2 Royal Albert (Scottish Alliance)
SP 22/8/1926. GIBSON. Line-up as yet unsourced.
All the goals came in the first half, Gibson scoring for Thistle. The second half was keenly fought but the Royalists deserved the points. It was their only season in the Alliance League. They finished 5th bottom.
3. Sat-28-Aug-1926 [a] W3-2 Solway Star (Scottish Alliance)
SP 29/8/1926. GIBSON (3). Line-up as yet unsourced.
Gibson with his hat-trick was the difference between the teams. It was Solway Star's only appearance in the Alliance League. They finished 3rd bottom.
4. Sat-11-Sep-1926 [h] W3-1 Beith (Scottish Alliance)
SP 12/9/1926. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
5. Sat-18-Sep-1926 [a] L3-4 Rangers (Scottish Alliance)
SP 19/9/1926. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
6. Sat-25-Sep-1926 [a] L5-8 Motherwell (Scottish Alliance)
MT 1/10/1926. Gibbs, Calder, McKendrick, Neil, Bett, McDougall, Lindsay, McLean, GIBSON (3), Corrance, SALISBURY. (1 og.)
Rank bad goalkeeping by both keepers was evident. Many of the 13 goals were saveable and ironic cheering by the home crowd when Gibbs saved anything told its own story. It was 3-5 at half-time.
7. Thu-30-Sep-1926 [a] L0-4 Queen of the South (Scottish Alliance)
SC 1/10/1926. Line-up as yet unsourced. This was the final match of Celtic and Queen of the South player and Scottish Internationalist Joe Dodds' career.
8. Sat-02-Oct-1926 [a] L2-3 Queen's Park (Scottish Alliance)
SP 3/10/1926. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
9. Sat-09-Oct-1926 [h] L3-4 Helensburgh (Scottish Alliance)
SP 10/10/1926. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced. Humiliation for Thistle as they remained bottom of the Alliance league with 4 points out of 18.

KH 16/12/1926. Campbell, McKendrick, Munroe, Reid, BETT, Boardman, Lindsay, Gray, BROWN, Corrance, Salisbury.
Thistle's defence was bombarded from the start and Campbell was constantly in action. It was no surprise when Killie took a 1-goal lead at half-time. A magnificent save by Campbell kept it at 1-0 but he was beaten again then two late goals earned a point.
18. Sat-18-Dec-1926 [a] L1-2 St Mirren (Scottish Alliance)
SP 19/12/1926. BROWN. Line-up as yet unsourced.

SM 13/2/1927. SALISBURY (pen). Line-up as yet unsourced.
Thistle were on top for virtually all this match and Salisbury was a constant threat. He almost scored in the first few minutes then Paton went close with one of his crosses. The QP keeper kept everything out until Salisbury converted a penalty.
24. Sat-19-Feb-1927 [h] W7-0 Solway Star (Scottish Alliance)
SP 20/2/1927. GRAY (3), LINDSAY (2), McLEAN, WILLIAMSON. Line-up as yet unsourced.

SP 6/3/1927. WILLIAMSON (3), McLEAN (2). Line-up as yet unsourced.
27. Sat-26-Mar-1927 [h] D2-2 Aberdeen (Scottish 2nd XI Cup Semi Final)
APJ. 28/3/1927. Campbell, O'Hare, Munro, BETTS, Williamson, Boardman, Wilkie, Corrance, LINDSAY, McLean, Salisbury. Second and QF round byes.
The teams were well matched throughout and there were chances at both ends. Lindsay opened the scoring but it was 1-1 at half-time despite continued pressure by Thistle. Betts put Thistle ahead but it was 2-2 soon after. On to a Pittodrie replay.
28. Sat-02-Apr-1927 [a] L0-3 Aberdeen (Scottish 2nd XI Cup Semi Final replay)
APJ 4/4/1927. Campbell, O'Hare, Munro, Wilson, Williamson, Boardman, Wilkie, Brown, Lindsay, Corrance, Torbet.
8,000 saw a rather listless first half. Thistle tackled and harried and contained Aberdeen but they improved in the 2nd half and ran out easy winners. Brown was outstanding but overall Thistle "flattered only to deceive".
29. Tue-12-Apr-1927 [h] W4-1 Ayr United (Scottish Alliance)
GH 13/4/1927. KENNEDY (2), WILKIE, TORBET. Line-up as yet unsourced.
An easy win. Thistle led 2-0 at half-time through goals by Kennedy and Torbet but the score would have been greater had the forwards been more accurate. Kennedy and Wilkie scored after half-time before Ayr missed a penalty but they scored a late consolation goal.
30. Sat-16-Apr-1927 [h] L1-3 Motherwell (Scottish Alliance)
SP 17/4/1927. Wilkie. Line-up as yet unsourced.
31. Mon-18-Apr-1927 [h] D2-2 Queen of the South (Scottish Alliance)
GH 19/4/1927. Campbell, McKendrick, Graham, Ellis, Williamson, ?, Wilkie, STEVENSON, THOMSON, ?, ?.
32. Sat-30-Apr-1927 [h] D1-1 Queen's Park (Scottish Alliance)
SP 1/5/1927. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.
1926-27 Reserves summary notes

P32 W11 D5 L16 (1.188 ppg)

Historical PT Reserves average: 1.462 ppg (@ 22-Aug-2023)
  • The points-per-game measurements (ppg) above are calculated on the same principle as the first-team's all games category, and are based on 1 point for a draw and 3 points for a win across all eras.
  • Final League Position: cannot be verified. To the best of our knowledge, St Johnstone [h] was not played, and Thistle played 29 of 30. Only two teams fulfilled their fixtures.
