2. Sat-11-Sep-1920 [h] W4-1 Third Lanark (Scottish 2nd XI Cup 1st Round) |
– SFHA. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced. Second round bye. |
3. Sat-18-Sep-1920 [h] W4-1 Morton (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 19/9/1920. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced. |
4. Sat-25-Sep-1920 [a] D2-2 Ayr United (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 26/9/1920. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced. |
5. Sat-02-Oct-1920 [h] L1-2 Albion Rovers (Scottish Alliance) |
– CL 9/10/1920. BERNARD (pen), McQuade, Borthwick, McFarlane, McLaughlan, Millar, Smith, Comrie, Johnstone, Niven, Roberts. |
– Rovers had Thistle on the back foot for some time and took a 2-goal lead - poor defending for the second. A hand-ball gave Thistle a penalty which keeper Bernard converted but that ended the scoring although Rovers had a third goal disallowed. |
6. Sat-09-Oct-1920 [a] L2-3 Arbroath (Scottish Alliance) |
– AH 15/10/1920. Bernard, McQuade, Meldrum, McFarlane (J), McLaughlan, Craig, Robertson, McFarlane (R), Comrie, SALISBURY, HARRISON. |
– Two men short, assistant trainer Robertson and ex-St Johnstone player Craig were drafted in. Arbroath scored (15) then Salisbury hit the post but he did score (38). Arbroath scored, Harrison levelled (80) but Arbroath won it (87). |
7. Sat-16-Oct-1920 [h] W1-0 Queen's Park (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 17/10/1920. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced. |
8. Sat-23-Oct-1920 [a] W2-1 Hibernian (Scottish Alliance) |
– SC 25/10/1920. HARPER, MACKIE. Line-up as yet unsourced. |
9. Sat-30-Oct-1920 [h] W4-1 Dundee (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 31/10 & DC 1/11/1920. BERNARD, Johnstone, Borthwick, McFarlane (J), Wilson, Meldrum, McFARLANE (R) (2), NIVEN, Comrie, Harper, "McGrain". |
– An ill-tempered match. Dundee missed an early sitter then Niven shot through the keeper's legs. Dundee scored but McFarlane put Thistle 2-1 ahead at half-time, McFarlane and Bernard scored after half-time (the latter most probably a penalty). |
10. Sat-06-Nov-1920 [h] D1-1 Hibernian (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 7/11/1920. Bernard, McQuade, Borthwick, McFarlane (J), Stark, McLaughlan, McFarlane (R), Comrie, Duncan, Harper, McGRAIN. |
– A draw was just about right in this match but Hibs played most of the match with 10 men (right-back injured). Thistle had the best of the chances after half-time but failed to take any of them. Scoring timing and sequence not reported. |
11. Sat-13-Nov-1920 [a] W2-1 Queen's Park (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 14/11/1920. Bernard, McQuade, Borthwick, McFarlane (J), Wilson, McLAUGHLAN, Meldrum, McFarlane (R), Kerr, HARPER, McGrain. |
– McLaughlan (“a low drive”) and Harper (“a lovely shot”) gave Thistle a 2-goal lead at half-time. Had Queens taken their chances it would be been closer. A penalty was all they could muster in the second half and the points left Hampden for Firhill. |
12. Sat-20-Nov-1920 [h] L1-2 Motherwell (Scottish Alliance) |
– MT 26/11/1920. Bernard, McQuade, Borthwick, McFarlane (J), McCourt, Meldrum, McINTOSH, McFarlane (R), Kerr, Harper, McGrain. |
– The visitors had three good chances before Thistle got going but poor finishing and good goalkeeping meant it was goalless until McIntosh scored (75) but Motherwell scored twice to take the points. |
13. Sat-04-Dec-1920 [h] W1-0 Rangers (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 5/12/1920. Bernard, Johnstone, McQuade, McFarlane (J), Wilson, McCourt, McFarlane (R), COMRIE, Harper, Lauder, McGrain. |
– The balance of the early play probably just favoured Thistle. Bernard hit the post with his penalty but Comrie netted the rebound. It was mostly Thistle after that but the Ranger's keeper had some fine saves and it remained 1-0. |
14. Sat-11-Dec-1920 [h] D0-0 Celtic (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 12/12/1920. Bernard, Johnstone, McQuade, McFarlane (J), Wilson, McCourt, McFarlane (R), Comrie, Kerr, Harper, McGrain. |
– Goalless but “keen and always interesting”. Comrie, Kerr and Harper (with “one of the cleverest runs of the day”) all went close but in the end both defences won the day over the forwards. |
15. Sat-18-Dec-1920 [a] W1-0 Dundee (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 19/12/1920. Bernard, McQuade, Borthwick, McFarlane (J), Wilson, Meldrum, McFarlane (R), McCOURT, Comrie, Harper, McGrain. |
– The Dundee keeper stopped a stinging shot from Meldrum but McCourt raced in and bundled keeper and ball into the net. It was a case of Dundee dominance for almost the whole match but Bernard proved unbeatable. On play, a steal. |
16. Sat-25-Dec-1920 [h] W4-1 Aberdeen (Scottish Alliance) |
– APJ 27/12/1920. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced. GH report says 3-1, SC says 4-1. |
– All the goals were scored in the first half when Thistle were decidedly the better team. Aberdeen held their own after half-time - but only to prevent any more scoring. |
17. Sat-08-Jan-1921 [h] W3-1 Ayr United (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 9/1/1921. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced. |
18. Sat-22-Jan-1921 [a] L0-2 Albion Rovers (Scottish Alliance) |
– CL 29/1/1921. Bernard, Borthwick, McLean, Meldrum, Wilson, McFarlane (J), Wilson, McFarlane (R), McLaughlan, McGrain, Harper. |
– Bernard had some fine saves as Rovers had the best of things in the first half. Thistle seldom showed in attack. The second half was much the same. Rovers had more to offer and scored a couple of goals for a comfortable win. |
19. Sat-29-Jan-1921 [a] L2-3 Aberdeen (Scottish Alliance) |
– APJ 31/1/1921. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced. |
– Thistle were nowhere in the first half and went in at half-time 3-down. A tremendous fightback caught Aberdeen by surprise and goals from Thistle's right-half and inside-right made for an exciting finish with Aberdeen hanging on but a third goal never came. |
20. Sat-05-Feb-1921 [h] D0-0 Third Lanark (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 6/2/1921. Line-up as yet unsourced. |
21. Sat-19-Feb-1921 [h] W2-0 Kilmarnock (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 20/2/1921. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced. |
22. Sat-05-Mar-1921 [h] L2-4 Forfar Athletic (Scottish Alliance) |
– FOH 11/3/1921. Bernard, McDonald, Borthwick, McFarlane, Meldrum, Miller, McIntosh, Kerr, ANDERSON, Harper, McGRAIN. |
– “Partick Thistle Surprised”. A shot hit Bernard and was sent in off a post (20) but Anderson equalised. McGrain put Thistle ahead but a pen made it 2-2. Two second half goals gave bottom of the league Forfar their first away win of the season. |
23. Sat-12-Mar-1921 [a] L0-2 Rangers (Scottish 2nd XI Cup Quarter Final) |
– SP 13/3/1921. Line-up as yet unsourced. |
24. Sat-19-Mar-1921 [a] L1-2 Motherwell (Scottish Alliance) |
– MT 25/3/1921. Bernard, McQuade, Borthwick, McLaughlin, McCourt, Meldrum, Summerville, Kerr, HUTCHIESON, Harper, Jackson. |
– On a sodden surface Thistle had the best of the chances and when McLaughlin sent in a strong shot it was spilled by the keeper and Hutchieson finished off. A rising shot gave Bernard no chance soon after half-time. Kerr went off injured and the winner came (85). |
25. Sat-09-Apr-1921 [h] L0-2 Clyde (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 10/4/1921. Line-up as yet unsourced. |
26. Sat-16-Apr-1921 [a] D0-0 Clyde (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 17/4/1921. Line-up as yet unsourced. |
27. Sat-23-Apr-1921 [a] L0-4 Morton (Scottish Alliance) |
– SP 24/4/1921. Line-up as yet unsourced. |
28. Wed-27-Apr-1921 [a] L0-4 Celtic (Scottish Alliance) |
– DR 28/4/1921. Line-up as yet unsourced. |
29. Sat-30-Apr-1921 [a] W4-2 Forfar Athletic (Scottish Alliance) |
– FOH 6/5/1921. Bernard, Borthwick, "McQuade", McLachlan, "Wilson", Meldrum, McFARLANE, Lauder, SALISBURY (3), Harper, Bowie. |
– Forfar took the lead (15) after some fine play. Thistle were hardly in the game but McFarlane equalised just on half-time. Forfar scored again (48) but Salisbury levelled (62). He went on to score twice more but the winning margin more than flattered Thistle. |
