The 35th season of Partick Thistle F.C.
scorers in CAPS
1. Sat-18-Dec-1909 [h] D1-1 Queen's Park (Glasgow 2nd XI Cup Quarter Final)
SR 20/12/1909. Campbell, Kennedy, Bennett, Taylor, McDonald, Murray, Chalk, Williamson, Ballantyne, McLELLAN, Trialist.
There was a strong start by Queens and it was no surprise when they took the lead. Poor forward play prevented them going further ahead. McLellan scored, profiting from a slip, and Thistle dominated. Queen's were lucky to earn a replay.
2. Sat-25-Dec-1909 [a] L1-5 St Mirren (Friendly)
SR 27/12/1909. Campbell, Griffiths, Stevenson, Taylor, KENNEDY, Murray, Clark, Jamieson, Thomson, McLelland, Arnott.
On a treacherous surface Kennedy's fast low shot made it 1-0 then Saints equalised from close in. They played a strong game after half-time but Thistle seemed to be coping until they collapsed defensively and paid the price conceding another 4 goals.
3. Sat-15-Jan-1910 [a] W2-1 Clydebank Juniors (Friendly)
SR 17/1/1910. JAMIESON, CHALK. Line-up as yet unsourced, but Campbell played in goals and Griffith was in defence.
Poor weather affected the attendance for what was an attractive fixture at Kilbowie. The homesters had the best of the opening exchanges, but Thistle defended well and a surprise shot from Jamieson put them ahead. Clydebank equalised matters in the first half, and Charlie Chalk, in a second-half breakaway, got the winner.
4. Sat-09-Apr-1910 [h] L0-2 Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (Friendly)
SR 11/4/1910. Campbell, McNair, Johnstone, Taylor, Stirling, Alexander, Simpson, Lynch, Paton, Cumming, Wilson.
Arranged to give young Thistle trialists an outing, this didn't work out. None shone. A neat header put the Highlanders ahead at half-time. Thistle wasted numerous chances then a smashing shot beat Campbell. The score didn't flatter the soldiers.
5. Sat-16-Apr-1910 [a] L1-4 Queen's Park (Glasgow 2nd XI Cup Quarter Final replay)
SR 18/4/1910. SMITH. Line-up as yet unsourced.
On a “soft, sloppy ground… Thistle were plainly outclassed throughout”. They had a few good spells but it was late on before Smith managed a consolation goal.
