The 33rd season of Partick Thistle F.C.
scorers in CAPS
1. Thu-22-Aug-1907 [h] W4-0 Ashfield (Friendly)
DR 23/8/1907. Massey, Lyon, Roxburgh, ?, Gray (W), Allan, ?, ?, ROBERTSON (3), ?, SMITH.
Thistle played a number of established players but some trialists too. League champions Ashfield put up a brave show but were ultimately well beaten.
2. Sat-07-Sep-1907 [h] W3-0 Irvine Victoria (Friendly)
SR 9/9/1907. Massey, Kirkwood, Hogarth, Muirhead, Dummigan, McIntyre, Dorans, McDONALD, SERGEANT, Blackie, THOMSON.
Thistle led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals by Thomson then Sergeant. Play was end to end but all too often the shots in on Massie were easily dealt with. A third goal after half-time by McDonald made for an easy win.
3. Sat-21-Sep-1907 [h] L1-5 Third Lanark (Scottish 2nd XI Cup Quarter Final)
SR 23/9/1907. McCULLOCH. Line-up as yet unsourced. Thistle line-up included Massie, Robertson, Dorans, Wilson. Stopped 79 mins due to crowd encroachment when Thirds when 5-1 up. Result stood. Thistle were censured. First round bye.
A deflected shot by McCulloch put Thistle ahead in their first attack. From there on it was all Thirds and they rattled in 5 goals (including 2 penalties). On 75 mins the Thistle fans had had enough and invaded the park.
4. Sat-28-Sep-1907 [h] D3-3 Wishaw Thistle (Friendly)
SR 30/9/1907. Blaikey, Hogarth, Gilchrist, McIntyre, Dorans, Wilson, McCULLOCH, Kennedy, Sergeant, Muirhead, THOMSON. Remaining scorer as yet unsourced.
McCulloch gave Thistle an early lead then it was 2-0 soon after. In the second half Wishaw were by no means out of it and they deservedly reduced the lead before Thomson made it 3-1. Not giving up, they scored twice for a creditable draw.
5. Sat-26-Oct-1907 [h] W4-0 2nd Batallion K.O.S.B. (Friendly)
SR 28/10/1907. Howden, McInnes, Hogarth, MUIRHEAD, Dorans, McIntyre, Gordon, McDougall, McCULLOCH (2), BRUNTON, Thomson.
McCulloch gave Thistle the lead. They scored again but it was off-side. The second half saw the “sodjers” attack more but leaving gaps at the back. Brunton and McCulloch made it 3. Muirhead went off injured but he returned to score the fourth.
6. Sat-23-Nov-1907 [h] D0-0 Kilwinning Eglinton (Friendly)
SR 25/11/1907. Massie, Gray (W), Hogarth, Stirling, Dorans, McIntyre, Johnston, McDougall, McCulloch, Brunton, Gordon. Owing to the late start 2 x 35 mins were played.
A disappointing match. Play was open enough but neither set of forwards played well. The second half was more or less a repetition of the first.
7. Sat-11-Jan-1908 [h] W4-1 Glasgow Amateurs (Friendly)
SR 13/1/1908. McCulloch, Lyon, Halloway, McIntyre, Dorans, Stirling, Callander, McDOUGALL, McALLISTER (2), Aitchison, MUIRHEAD.
The first 15 minutes belonged to the amateurs then McAllister gave Thistle the lead. The amateurs scored then hit the bar before Muirhead made it 2-1 at half-time. Thistle missed a penalty but increasingly they had the upper hand and McDougall and McAllister scored.
Sat-22-Feb-1908 [a] A1-2 Third Lanark (Glasgow 2nd XI Cup Semi Final - abandoned game)
SR 24/2/1908. Howden, Ferguson, Lyon, McIntyre, Dorans, Muirhead, McCulloch, McDougall, WILSON, Callander, Robertson. Semi Final was the 1st Round as such. Match abandoned (blizzard). SFHA says abandoned at 1-1. No trace of subsequent match found.
With a blizzard blowing in their faces, it was little surprise Thistle were pinned back. Howden had some marvellous saves but was beaten twice before half-time. Wilson reduced the lead but the ref called a halt soon after.
8. ?Sat-07-Mar-1908 [h] L?-? Third Lanark (Glasgow 2nd XI Cup Semi Final)
SFHA. Score unknown. Presumed lost, although the possibility remains that Thistle scratched. Third Lanark played Rangers in the final 11/5/1908. Nominal date, guesswork.
9. Sat-21-Mar-1908 [a] L0-4 Wishaw Thistle (Friendly)
SR 23/3/1908 & Wishaw Press 27/3/1908. Line-up as yet unsourced.
The first half was tight and the local Thistle led 1-0 at half-time. The second half was all theirs and they ran in 4-0 winners on merit. “The homesters were masters of the situation throughout”.
