1893-94 (Reserves)
The nineteenth season of Partick Thistle F.C.
scorers in CAPS
1. Thu-07-Sep-1893 [h] W?-? Duntocher Harp (Scottish 2nd XI Cup 1st Round)
SFHA. Score not known. Won.
2. Sat-23-Sep-1893 [a] D1-1 Lenzie (Friendly)
KRH 27/9/1893. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.
An evenly contested match. A rather soft goal gave the locals a half-time lead but a defensive blunder between the keeper and the right-back let Thistle in for an equaliser.
3. Sat-30-Sep-1893 [h] W3-2 Wishaw Thistle (Scottish 2nd XI Cup 2nd Round)
WP 7/10/1893 & GEP 30/9/1893. SCOTT, COCHRANE. Wishaw complained pitch was not marked off properly (Seafield Park, Jordanhill).
Thistle crossed over at half-time leading 2-1, their first goal a defensive misunderstanding, the second poor goalkeeping. They were under pressure after half-time but scored on a breakaway. Wishaw scored (75) but couldn't make their pressure count.
4. Sat-21-Oct-1893 [a] L2-5 Port Glasgow Athletic (Scottish 2nd XI Cup 3rd Round)
GT 23/10/1893. Spence, McMoreland, Melvin, Gallarity, Thomas, McConnachie, McPHERSON, Proudfoot, COCHRANE, Boyd, Scott.
Cochrane scored (5) but soon it was 1-1. Worse followed when Thistle fell 3-1 behind but McPherson reduced the deficit before half-time. The second half saw Port have the best of things and they scored twice.
5. Sat-28-Oct-1893 [a] W5-1 Pollokshaws (Friendly)
GEP 28/10/1893. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
With the wind at their backs Thistle went 2-up inside 15 minutes. Pollokshaws lost a man to injury but managed to reduce the lead. The second half was a struggle for them with 10 men and Thistle finished 5-1 winners.
6. Sat-09-Dec-1893 [a] L1-5 Queen's Park (Friendly)
GEP 9/12/1893. Spence, McLindon. McMoreland, Bird, Freebairn, Proudfoot, McPherson, McDermond, Cochrane, Boyd. Scorer as yet unsourced. Match stopped 15 minutes from time.
In snow and sleet, Thistle led 1-0 at half-time but four goals in quick time turned the match around. There was even time for a fifth before the referee called a halt.
7. Sat-13-Jan-1894 [a] L0-1 Cowlairs (Friendly)
SR 15/1/1894. (Predicted) Spence, McLindon, McMoreland, Bird, McKenzie, Thomas, McPherson, Proudfoot, Higgins, Melrose, McDermid. 2 x 30s were played. Both teams were late arrivals! Confirmed line-up as yet unsourced.
A close game in which Cowlairs booked the strong wind in the first half and scored the only goal of the game. Thistle had a good second half and applied a lot of pressure but the home defence was sound.
8. Sat-20-Jan-1894 [h] D2-2 Port Glasgow Athletic (Friendly)
GT 22/1/1894. McPHERSON. (Predicted) Spence, McLindon, McMoreland, Bird, McKenzie, Thomas, McPherson, Proudfoot, McDermid, Scott, Melrose. Confirmed line-up and remaining scorer as yet unsourced.
Thistle took an early lead but for most of the first half Port were the better team and they led 2-1 at half-time. A stronger second half saw McPherson equalise and most of the pressure towards the end was Thistle's but the winner eluded them.
9. Sat-03-Feb-1894 [h] W7-1 Cameronians (Friendly)
SR 5/2/1894. (Predicted) Spence, McLindon, Harrower, Bird, McKenzie, Thomas. McPherson, PROUDFOOT, Wilson, MELROSE, Scott. Confirmed line-up and remaining scorers as yet unsourced.
Thistle raced to a 4-goal lead but the visitors pulled one back before half-time. Melrose scored just after the restart, a scrimmage led to a 6th and Proudfoot finished off any easy win. “Melrose on the left played a clinking game.
10. Sat-10-Feb-1894 [h] W2-1 Abercorn (Friendly)
SR 12/2/1894. Spence, McLindon, Harrower, Bird, McKenzie, Thomas, McPherson, Proudfoot, Wilson, MELROSE (2), Scott. 2 x 35s were played.
Played in a sea of mud, the game at times was ludicrous. The visitors took an early lead but two goals by Melrose won the day.
11. Sat-17-Feb-1894 [a] L3-6 Port Glasgow Athletic (Friendly)
SR 19/2/1894. Line-up and scorers as yet unsourced.
12. Sat-21-Apr-1894 [a] L1-6 Jordanhill (Friendly)
SR 23/4/1894. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.
Despite playing uphill with a strong wind in their faces, Jordanhill edged the first half 2-1. Thistle made nothing of them in the second half and were seldom out of their own half.
