DH 24/8/1887. MILLER, WOODS. Line-up as yet unsourced.
Play was even with chances at both ends but it was Thistle who took a 2-goal lead before half-time through Miller and Woods. Ten mins into the second half it was 2-2 at which point Athletic faded and Thistle rattled in 4 more goals.

Pre-match favourites Thistle failed to deliver. It was 2-2 until the dying moments when Motherwell scored the winner.

Opening game of the season at Mill Lane, Newcastle. Rangers featured two former Jags - Jack Beattie and J. Campbell.

On a dreadful surface, Thistle applied the pressure from the start and led 3-1 at half-time. They dominated the second half and scored three more in quick time. Wood dislocated his knee and was carried off (75) but they still managed a 7th goal.

DH 5/10/1887. Urquhart, McGougan, Cooper, Cochrane, McLaughlin, Flannelly, Miller, McLean, Christie, McLucas, McFARLANE.
Renton took a quick 2-goal lead but McFarlane scored then McLucas “scored” but was off-side just on half-time. Three more goals underlined how superior Renton were in every department.

Played at Airdrie, the visitors playing with 10 men and a sub and the Airdrieonians only having a scratch team, the Thistle won by 4 goals to none.” (NBDM). “Thistle's combination perplexed the Airdrieonians” (LUWE).

LUWE 26/11/1887. Urquhart, McGougan, Milliken, Cochrane, Brown, Flannelly, McKay URQUHART, WEIR, McLucas, Galt.
A fine run down the left resulted in Airdrie going ahead (20) and two mins later it was 2-0. Urquhart and Weir hit back however and the teams crossed over at 2-2. In the second half Thistle hemmed Airdrie in but couldn't find a goal. 2 x 30 mins were played.

Play was confined to midfield for most of the first half then Thistle took the lead but goals just before and after half-time turned the game around. A late goal for Queens made sure of the win.
15. Mon-02-Jan-1888 [a] W3-1 Newcastle East End (Friendly)
MH 7/1/1888. Urquhart (D), McGOUGAN, Milliken, Flannelly, BROWN, McLaughlin, Millar, Urquhart (A), WEIR, Galt, McLucas.
The teams defended stoutly in turn as play ran from end to end in a goalless first half. McGougan scored for 1-0 but East End levelled before Brown and Weir put Thistle in command (“a capital shot”).

GEP 14/1/1888. Urquhart, McGougan, Hendrie, Brown, Stewart, McLaughlin, Galt, McLucas, Buchanan, Miller, MacKay. Scorers as yet unsourced.
It was mainly Queens who had the pull in the first half and they took a 2-goal lead. Thistle managed to reduce it from a scrimmage. Queens increased the lead after half-time but Thistle fought back to earn a creditable draw.

The Swifts were well beaten in Alexandria and trailed 2-0 at half-time. The main feature of the match was hat-tricks by Rovers players McGregor and Buchanan.
